EgyptAir’s First Airbus A220-300 Completes Test Flight

EgyptAir’s first Airbus A220-300 successfully completed its inaugural test flight from the Mirabel assembly line in Canada. The airline ordered a total of 12 A220s in late 2017 and the first is scheduled to be delivered in the “coming weeks,” said Airbus. The narrow-body aircraft fleet features an all-new cabin interior with134 seats and will be deployed within the carrier’s EgyptAir Express regional operation, which currently uses Embraer 170s.

Qantas Sketches “High-Level” Design of Project Sunrise Suites

Qantas already has a “high-level” design detailing the shape of the Project Sunrise first-class suites and business-class seats for its long-haul aircraft that will be used on flights of up to 18–20 hours in duration. Qantas CEO Alan Joyce said the all-new cabins would either feature in the Airbus A350-1000 or the Boeing 777X and that “it will be the best product we’ve ever put on an aircraft.” According to Executive Traveller, the Project Sunrise aircraft are expected to have a relatively small first-class cabin and ultra-fast in-flight Wi-Fi that is capable of streaming HD video.

Only 1 in 20 Pilots Is Female, According to Global Study

Airlines are not doing enough to hire female pilots, according to a new report published by travel platform Drawing data from the Air Line Pilots Association and the International Society of Women Airline Pilots, the report states that the global average for female cockpit crew currently stands at 5.2%, with most big airlines reporting a similar percentage.

Ryanair to Start Flying to Two Cities in Georgia This Fall

Ryanair plans to launch flights to the Georgian cities of Tbilisi and Kutaisi. Starting November, the airline will begin Tbilisi–Milan Bergamo, Kutaisi–Bologna and Kutaisi–Marseille routes, followed by a Tbilisi–Cologne service in April 2020. Ryanair chief commercial officer David O’Brien said Georgia is one of Europe’s fastest-growing tourism destinations and that the new service will “develop new Georgian traffic growth, new routes and jobs in the coming years.”

Garuda Discloses LOI for Four Airbus A330-800s

Garuda Indonesia disclosed in its second quarter financial statements that it signed a letter of intent (LOI) on June 17 to acquire four Airbus A330-800s, a deal that previously went unannounced. The aircraft are scheduled to be delivered between the third quarter of 2021 and the second quarter of 2022. Airbus declined to comment on the LOI, saying: “We do not comment on discussions that we may or may not be having with our customers.”

TSA Begins Advising Air Travelers About Real ID Compliance

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has started notifying travelers that identification that is not Real ID-compliant will not be able to use it to fly as of October 1, 2020. Passengers who do not have a Real ID-compliant driver’s license will need to carry other acceptable forms of identification, such as a passport or a military ID to fly on domestic routes within the US.
