Ryanair announced Eddie Wilson as CEO of its main airline business, following an overhaul of the company’s structure. Wilson, who has worked at the low-cost carrier for 22 years, will report directly to Michael O’Leary, who moved into the new role of group CEO earlier this year. Until now, Wilson served as Ryanair’s chief people officer, where he played a leading role in the ongoing negotiations with labor unions since Ryanair agreed to recognize them in late 2017.

Interjet Blames Russian Aircraft for “Technical Bankruptcy”

Interjet is in “technical bankruptcy” and is at risk of collapse, following an order to pay back $27 million in taxes. The Mexican low-cost carrier successfully resisted an attempt by authorities to seize control of its bank accounts, as part of an effort to collect unpaid taxes dating back to 2013. According to court filings, some of the airline’s problems can be traced back to its fleet of 22 Sukhoi Superjets that it began flying in 2012. Interjet told the court that the aircraft “had supply issues with the maker, leading to grounded planes being cannibalized,” and reduced the carrier’s liquidity and ability to pay some of its taxes.

40 Success Stories: When AirFi Realized Portable Wireless IFE With Its Moon Box

AirFi’s cofounder and CEO Job Heimerikx said the idea for the Moon AirFi box, its first portable wireless in-flight entertainment solution, came as the result of an electronic point of sale solution (Connected Crew) created by his company, MI Airline, in 2010. “The system worked really well […] but we initially suffered performance issues using Bluetooth. We added a simple walk-on Wi-Fi hotspot, and that’s where the idea for the AirFi Moon box was born.” The 40 Success Stories campaign celebrates APEX members’ most significant achievements in the lead-up to the 40th anniversary of APEX EXPO this September.
