FTE Global: Is Air Travel Adapting in the Age of Transformation?

At FTE Global, APEX CEO Dr. Joe Leader argued that we are currently in a golden age of air transportation, pointing toward the availability of in-flight entertainment and connectivity, as well as the rise of biometric verification technology, which will help airline passengers travel more securely. Austin Gould, the TSA’s assistant administrator for Requirements and Capabilities Analysis, added weight to Leader’s claim about biometrics: “It is very rare that you can find a technology that can do so much for aviation. It will improve security because threats are real and it will get people through the gates more quickly.”

In-Flight Wi-Fi Could Be Permitted in Indian Airspace Within Weeks

A new ruling, giving passengers flying over Indian airspace the right to in-flight Wi-Fi as long as the pilot agrees, may be added to the Aircraft Act as early as September 13. If the rule is adopted, access will depend on how quickly airlines and connectivity service providers take action. Hughes Communications India, in partnership with Global Eagle, has successfully secured a license, while Airtel and Jio are in the process of applying. Inmarsat is hoping to meet regulatory requirements for its Global Xpress solution by the end of this year.

Delta Boosts IFE Offering With Spotify Podcast Tie-Up

As of this month, passengers flying with Delta Air Lines will have access to a selection of popular podcasts via the in-flight entertainment system on more than 700 aircraft. The carrier partnered with Spotify for the new IFE offering, adding podcasts like Reply All, covering topics related to the Internet, and Every Little Thing, which provides answers to burning questions like, "How old is Winnie the Pooh?” and “What do dogs say when they bark?”

[PHOTOS] Philippine Airlines Introduces New Regional A321neo Fleet

Philippine Airlines has unveiled the first of 15 new Airbus A321neos that will be introduced to its fleet over the next few years. The interior features Airbus’ Cabin Flex configuration, in a two-class layout with 12 seats in business class and 183 seats in economy. DesignAir reported that this configuration offers more legroom than the 236-seat configuration offered by some competing airlines. Philippine Airlines’ president, Gilbert F. Santa Maria, says the A321neo fleet will become the single-aisle mainstay for its regional routes, helping the airline with its mission to boost tourism from neighboring countries China, Japan, Korea and others.

Virgin Atlantic Gets "Krafty" With New Goodie Bag Amenity Kits

The recent launch of new aircraft by Virgin Atlantic was the inspiration behind the airline’s latest amenity kits, says product manager Katerina Orfanidi: “[It] enabled us to question everything we carry and look at a new set of products that are sustainable but not a compromise on quality.” Highlights of the new Goodie Bag for Upper Class passengers includes a BambuuBrush (toothbrush with bamboo handle and activated charcoal-infused bristles), socks in destination-themed designs, a pen made mostly of recycled paper and a reusable pouch made of durable kraft paper.
