SAS Opts for Thompson Aero Vantage Business-Class Seats on Airbus A321s

Scandinavian Airlines has selected the Thompson Aero Vantage seat for its business-class cabins on board its forthcoming fleet of three Airbus A321LRs. The lie-flat seats will be deployed in a modified layout in which each row has two seats on one side of the aisle and a solo seat on the other side. SAS plans to use the new narrow-body aircraft on routes between Copenhagen and cities in the northeast of the US.

AeroMobile Partners With UAE Telecommunications Provider for In-Flight Roaming

AeroMobile has partnered with du, a UAE-based telecommunications operator, to enable its subscribers to access in-flight connectivity at a reduced price. Customers of du will be able to use the Panasonic Avionics subsidiary’s in-flight connectivity services, including browsing the Internet, sending and receiving text messages, and making and receiving phone calls, as part of their roaming packages.

JAL Allows Customers to Avoid Sitting Next to Babies on Flights

Japan Airlines released a tool that allows customers to avoid choosing seats next to infants aged between eight days and two years old when booking tickets online. The feature displays an animated icon of a baby’s face in the seat map for seats that will be occupied by infants. However, the tool is only available for customers who make bookings through JAL’s website.

VietJet Receives First Airbus A321neo Featuring Cabin Flex Configuration

VietJet Air received its first Airbus A321neo. The narrow-body aircraft has 240 seats, including 30 seats in the front section with extra legroom. The Vietnamese low-cost carrier opted for the new Airbus Cabin Flex configuration, which allows for an increased seat density thanks to a new rear section and the removal of the door situated in front of the wing and the addition of new emergency exits adjacent to the aircraft’s two wings.

Temasek Acquires a 50% Stake in gategroup

Singapore-based investment firm Temasek has bought a 50% stake in gategroup. The deal makes Temasek the co-shareholder in the in-flight catering company alongside Asian investment firm RRJ Capital. Temasek held a mandatory exchangeable bond, which it converted to buy more shares that secured a 50% stake in the Zurich-based company. “This is yet another step forward in the transformational journey of gategroup and excellent news for our employees and customers,” said gategroup CEO Xavier Rossinyol.

[PHOTOS] Virgin Atlantic Reveals Star Wars-Themed Livery

Virgin Atlantic unveiled a special edition Star Wars livery on one of its Boeing 747-400s. The new paint job features the Millennium Falcon spaceship on the side of the aircraft’s fuselage and it is intended to promote the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge theme park located within Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida. LATAM Airlines also unveiled a Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge livery on one of its Boeing 777s last week. Virgin Atlantic’s Star Wars-themed 747 will be used on flights between London’s Gatwick Airport and Orlando.
