Delta Calls on US and EU to Resolve Trade Dispute

Delta Air Lines said the proposed tariffs on European-made aircraft that are already under contract for purchase are “an unfair tax on US consumers and companies.” Lisa Hanna, general manager of Corporate Communications at the Atlanta-based carrier, which has 266 Airbus aircraft on order, called on the Trump administration and EU to resolve the 15-year trade dispute “in a manner that respects existing contractual rights.”

XL Airways France to Be Liquidated

Attempts to save XL Airways France failed after a commercial court declared the airline will be liquidated. All flights that had been previously suspended until today have been permanently canceled. France’s minister of finance, Bruno Le Maire, partly blamed low-cost rival Norwegian Air, which he said received state aid. He plans to seek an intervention from the European Commission. “Norwegian Air is undercutting prices while in debt and receiving public funding from Norway. That’s something I cannot accept because the rules of competition should be the same for everyone,” he said.

LAX to Ban Curbside Ride-Hailing Pickups

Los Angeles International Airport will soon ban ride-hailing companies from picking up passengers outside terminal buildings. Starting October 29, Uber and Lyft customers will need to take a five-minute shuttle to a parking lot next to LAX’s Terminal 1, where they can meet their driver. The airport made the decision in response to increasing congestion during the $14-billion overhaul of its aging road network and terminal buildings.
