Vietnam Airlines Begins In-Flight Connectivity Journey

Vietnam Airlines announced it is introducing in-flight connectivity to some aircraft in its fleet of Airbus A350s. Starting October 10, passengers on four of the airline’s 14 A350s will be able to access in-flight Wi-Fi. The airline said it plans to roll out the service to more aircraft in the near future, including its fleet of 13 Boeing 787s. Browsing packages for the new Wi-Fi service range from $2.95 for a basic messaging service, to $9.95 for 25 MB of data and $29.95 for 80 MB.

Immfly Partners With Meditation App

Immfly announced a partnership with Journey Meditation to offer 15-minute meditation classes via its wireless in-flight entertainment system. Immfly will add the company’s Journey LIVE meditation content, which includes regularly updated videos featuring certified teachers who guide passengers on stress and anxiety relieving techniques, in addition to the basic principles of meditation. “The ability to pair our technology, which enables dynamic delivery of fresh content on board, with rich and relevant content that inspires well-being, is something we are very proud of at Immfly. We are excited to be Journey Meditation’s first airline partner,” said Julia Maruny, head of Content at Immfly.

Acro Selects Airbase to Manufacture Leather Aircraft Seat Covers

Acro has awarded a contract to Airbase, part of Trenchard Aviation Group, to manufacture Ultra- Leather aircraft seat covers. The contract is a result of Acro’s commission to provide new seats to Spirit Airlines, which was announced during last month’s APEX EXPO. “We’re delighted to be working with Acro to help them fulfil their contract with Spirit Airlines. This new win is further evidence of how successful we are at meeting the needs of the aircraft cabin interiors industry,” said Mark Faulkner, Trenchard Aviation Group’s CEO.

Southwest Airlines Selects ABC International for Cabin Branding Elements

Southwest Airlines (SWA) has selected ABC International to supply cabin branding elements for the airline’s heart logo on board its fleet of Boeing 737s. The new branding element is made of a lightweight injected polycarbonate and is varnished with aeronautical paint featuring the airline’s shades of blue, red and yellow. “Starting from SWA corporate colors, we manufactured several samples to, firstly, match perfectly the iconic yellow, blue and red of SWA and, later on, to assess the grade of polishing effect on the chrome base of the heart,” said Olindo Spatola, vice-president of Engineering and Programs at ABC International.

British Airways Retrofits Club Suite to Its First Boeing 777

British Airways has retrofitted its business-class Club Suite product on board its first Boeing 777. The new seats are deployed in a 1-2-1 configuration with direct aisle access for all passengers. The seat is a modified version of the Collins Aerospace Super Diamond and is able to convert into a lie-flat bed. Each Club Suite seat also has a sliding privacy door and an 18.5-inch Panasonic eX3 in-flight entertainment display.

ANA Asks Passengers to Vote on Upcoming In-Flight Meals

All Nippon Airways is inviting its passengers to vote on which dishes should be offered on the airline’s in-flight menu. ANA selected 10 traditional rice bowl dishes from various regions representing eastern and western Japan. Passengers will be able to cast their vote via the Internet and ANA’s social media accounts. “We are always looking for new ways to give our passengers a voice and inviting their input on the services that we offer in order to create a more responsive airline,” said Hideki Kunugi, ANA’s executive vice-president.

Ethiopian Flight Makes Emergency Landing After Engine Catches Fire

An Ethiopian Airlines flight was forced to make an emergency landing when an engine caught fire minutes after taking off from Dakar, Senegal, on Tuesday. All 90 passengers and crew on board were unharmed. Ethiopian Airlines said on Twitter that a Boeing 767 aircraft was forced to make an emergency landing because of a “technical problem.” It did not provide further details.
