Flybe to Be Rebranded as Virgin Connect

Flybe is to be rebranded as Virgin Connect following its acquisition by the newly formed Connect Airways, made up of a consortium consisting of Virgin Atlantic Limited, Stobart Group and Cyrus Capital earlier this year. A wider rebrand is set to take place next year, but the new Virgin Connect website claims the carrier is saying “goodbye to purple and hello to red.” Mark Anderson, CEO of Connect Airways, commented, “Virgin Connect will be passionately focused on becoming Europe’s most loved and successful regional airline.”

TrueMove H Partners With Aeromobile on In-Flight Roaming

Telecommunications provider TrueMove H has partnered with Panasonic Avionics subsidiary Aeromobile to launch Thailand’s first in-flight roaming data bundle. Once purchased, the bundle allows TrueMove H’s postpaid customers traveling on AeroMobile-equipped aircraft to use their mobile devices to browse the internet and send and receive e-mails, text messages and calls. "Through our partnership with AeroMobile, we are now able to offer a valued in-flight roaming service at an attractive price,” said Parinthon Tansuthepverawong, general manager, True Corporation.

Gogo and JTA Introduce In-Flight AR Experience

Gogo has partnered with Japan Transocean Air (JTA), a subsidiary of Japan Airlines, to bring augmented reality (AR) to JTA's flights. Using its in-cabin network, Gogo optimized the AR content for in-flight use, hosting the files locally so that no additional applications were required to partake in the experience. Passengers simply connect to Gogo’s network, click the AR banner that appears on their mobile device and follow one of the five AR stories on offer during their flight. JTA’s AR experience officially launched at the beginning of October.

Transavia Announces New Chief Executive

On January 1, 2020, Marcel de Nooijer will become chief executive of Air France-KLM's low-cost carrier Transavia, succeeding Mattijs ten Brink, who left the company in September. De Nooijer is currently serving as executive vice-president of Air France-KLM Cargo and managing director of Martinair. Furthermore, Transavia’s commercial director Erik-Jan Gelink is set to depart from Transavia on January 1, 2020, creating what the airline is referring to as “a natural moment to optimize the composition of the Transavia management team.”

SkyUp Airlines Opts for Acro Series 3 Ultra Seats

Ukrainian charter and low-cost carrier SkyUp Airlines has selected Acro Aircraft Seating’s Series 3 Ultra product for its fleet of six Boeing 737-800s and two Boeing 737-700s. The seats will feature grey synthetic leather seat covers accented with orange stitching to match SkyUp’s signature color. Acro Aircraft Seating’s Series 3 Ultra seat features two inches more legroom than other seats at the same pitch due to the positioning of the tray and literature pocket.

Singapore Airlines to Offer Children’s Origami Kits

Singapore Airlines (SIA) is giving families a new way to keep children entertained with its new “Inflight Skills” origami how-to kits. Set to be rolled out across participating European markets, each kit contains a step-by-step guide to five creations, from a paper plane to a box featuring SIA’s signature batik print. The carrier has also created a tutorial video for the kits, together with origami influencer Red Ted Art, that is available on YouTube.

The Correlation Between NPS and IFE

Hard product changes such as seatback screens yield higher increases in net promoter score (NPS) than process or service changes that involve frontline staff, according to Aer Lingus’ head of Consumer PR, Paula Donaghy. Wireless in-flight entertainment (IFE) has also been found to affect NPS: Air France reported a significant increase for passengers flying on routes equipped with Moment’s (formerly Interactive Mobility) Flymingo wireless IFE solution.
