Airbus Pitches A350-1000s for Project Sunrise

Airbus has submitted a pitch for its A350-1000s to fly non-stop for up to 20 hours from Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane to London and New York on Qantas’ Project Sunrise routes. “It is by far the most capable, large wide-body airplane flying today,” said Marisa Lucas-Ugena, head of Marketing for the Airbus A350. “In 2022, we are introducing a higher maximum take-off weight, and 8,700 nautical miles with 375 passengers is something that the airplane will be able to fly.” The airline is expected to make its choice on which aircraft will fly the commercial Project Sunrise routes by the end of the year.

Cathay Pacific Quadruples IFE Offering

Cathay Pacific is now offering passengers four times more in-flight entertainment content. A new partnership with MUBI sees the airline showing remastered classics, while a deal with Sport 24 means live sports coverage is now available on its Airbus A350 aircraft. Cathay Pacific also said it is one of the first airlines to offer multi-season box sets, meaning passengers can binge-watch multiple series.

JetBlue and Norwegian Plan Partnership for Summer 2020

JetBlue and Norwegian have signed a Letter of Intent for an interline agreement they hope to launch in summer 2020. The partnership will connect more than 60 U.S and nearly 40 Caribbean and Latin American cities to Norwegian’s network via New York-JFK, Boston and Fort Lauderdale airports, from which the carrier serves more than 20 European destinations. JetBlue’s CEO Robin Hayes said, “Norwegian shares our belief that customers benefit when we can bring competition and low fares to the transatlantic market currently dominated by joint ventures, legacy alliances and sky-high ticket prices.”

Sabre Targets LCC Market With Acquisition of Radixx

Sabre has acquired airline retailing software provider Radixx for $100 million. The Orlando-based company’s low-cost carrier customer base will enable Sabre to offer retailing, distribution and fulfilment capabilities for this rapidly expanding market, according to Sean Menke, CEO of Sabre. “This acquisition will result in a better alternative for low-cost carriers that might have otherwise felt their PSS and other technology options were limited,” he said.

Brussels Airlines Debuts NATAN Amenity Kits

Brussels Airlines has teamed up with luxury Belgian brand NATAN and in-flight product provider Galileo Watermark to develop new amenity kits for its business-class passengers. Available on flights to North America and Africa, the unisex vegan leather bags come in blue and black. The bags are filled with cosmetics from Belgian brand RainPharma, and are the first in a series of three collectible designs that will be rolled out over the next 18 months.

[VIDEO] Inmarsat on How Connectivity Is Changing Passenger Behavior

Dominic Walters, Inmarsat Aviation's VP, Marketing Communications and Strategy, explains the findings of the final part of its Sky High Economics research study, conducted together with the London School of Economics, which looks at how passenger behavior is changing in a connected world. The report estimates that in five years’ time, 450 million passengers will be Gen Z digital natives who will choose an airline based on its in-flight Wi-Fi offering, representing a $33-billion opportunity for the industry.

Industry Stakeholders Set Up The Airline Sustainability Forum

A new working group has been founded following the Onboard Hospitality Sustainability Summit, hosted in partnership with Monty’s Bakehouse. Alongside environmental experts, The Airline Sustainability Forum is made up of representatives from British Airways, Gatwick Airport, Iberia, Qatar Airways, TUI, Monty’s Bakehouse, Global-C, Spiriant, En Route and NowNewNext. It will now develop a short paper to summarize its objectives before reconvening in February 2020 to decide next steps.
