Heathrow’s Third Runway Plans Head to Court of Appeal

The mayor of London, five local authorities and environmental campaigners are taking the UK government to the Court of Appeal to challenge the third runway at Heathrow Airport. The High Court decided in May that the government’s decision to build a third runway was lawful, but challengers argue this conclusion was made before the Climate Change Act was amended to incorporate the target of reaching net zero emissions by 2050. The House of Commons voted in favor of the third runway last year, approving transport secretary Chris Grayling’s plans by 415 votes to 119.

Amsterdam Airport Schiphol has deployed its own network for Internet of Things (IoT) applications to receive real-time insights from across the airport. In September alone, it received 550,000 responses as a result of passengers sharing feedback about toilets and other amenities. Moving forward, Schiphol plans to use sensors to provide information about aircraft stand equipment. Compared to Wi-Fi, the network offers better range and less power consumption.
