[PHOTOS] Inside United’s New CRJ-550

After being announced as the launch customer for Bombardier’s new 50-seat CRJ-550 regional jet earlier this year, United Airlines has revealed images of the cabin interior. The aircraft is configured with 10 first-class seats, 20 Economy Plus seats and 20 economy seats, and features a self-service bar for first-class passengers. The airline began selling flights for the CRJ-550 a few weeks ago, for travel as of this Sunday. In June, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries agreed to buy Bombardier’s CRJ regional jet program.

Indonesian Report Claims Design Flaws Played Role in Lion Air Crash

An Indonesian investigation has found that Lion Air Flight 610 crashed due to a combination of aircraft design flaws, inadequate training and maintenance problems. The final accident report said the pilots were never told how to respond quickly to malfunctions of the Boeing 737 MAX 8’s automated flight-control system. It also said the aircraft, which had only been in use for two months, had experienced issues on its last four flights, including one the day before its fatal accident. It follows a similar report released by US accident investigators last month.

Why Airlines Should Cater to Baby Boomers

While millennials are the future, baby boomers have disposable income and are eager to complete their bucket lists, making this a lucrative demographic for airlines. A recent YouGov poll found that Southwest Airlines, which has some of the most flexible policies, ranks as the most popular airline among graycationers, who may have to make last minute changes to travel plans for health reasons. Delta also allows members to put their elite status on hold in the event of illness, injury, family care or other major life occurrences.
