Vueling Becomes Third Airline to Commence EAN Rollout

Vueling is the third airline, following British Airways and Iberia, to initiate the soft launch of an in-flight connectivity service powered by Inmarsat's European Aviation Network (EAN). Passengers on the five aircraft currently equipped with the service can choose from three Wi-Fi packages: messaging, browsing or streaming. The rollout across Vueling’s fleet of over 110 Airbus A320 family aircraft is scheduled for completion early next year and comes as part of Vueling’s NEXT transformation program, which is focused on improving customer experience, operational resilience and digital innovation.

United Airlines revealed on Friday plans to add larger overhead bins to 80% of its fleet by 2023. The larger bins, which are already on board its wide-bodies, can each accommodate six roller bags – equivalent to 65 additional bags on board a 179-seat Boeing 737-900. Over the weekend, the airline also launched a virtual seat map for its latest aircraft, the CRJ550, enabling passengers to get a sense of the different seating products, before making a purchase or upgrade.

Southwest Crewmember Sues Airline Over Hidden Lavatory Camera Incident

Flight attendant Renee Steinaker is suing Southwest Airlines for retaliation following a report she made about two pilots live-streaming a video feed of the aircraft lavatory on a flight between Pittsburgh and Phoenix in 2017. Steinaker alleges she and her husband, also a flight attendant, were stalked and subjected to an increased number of performance audits as a result. Southwest Airlines said it would “vigorously defend” the lawsuit and claimed, “There was never a camera in the lavatory; the incident was an inappropriate attempt at humor, which the company did not condone.”

Cathay Pacific Reintroduces Betsy Beer on Long-Haul Flights

Cathay Pacific has relaunched its locally brewed craft beer with a new look and flavor. The airline describes the updated Betsy Beer, created in partnership with Hong Kong brewery Gweilo Beer, as a “citrus-forward pale ale” that builds on the DNA of the original version launched in February 2017. It is available in all cabins on long-haul flights and in the airline’s lounges at Hong Kong International Airport. The beer takes its name from Cathay Pacific’s first aircraft, a Douglas DC-3 known as “Betsy,” which flew during the 1940s and 1950s.
