New FTE Air MobilityX Event Will Focus on Air Taxi Services

Future Travel Experience (FTE) has announced a new event, FTE Air MobilityX, that will be co-located with the 2020 FTE-APEX Asia EXPO. The news follows a number of recent initiatives to accelerate the development of commercial air taxi services. Daniel Coleman, founder of FTE, explained, “The recent Volocopter trials in Singapore, and those that Uber Elevate is planning in Melbourne, Dallas and Los Angeles next year prove that new air mobility solutions such as eVTOLs and electric regional aircraft will become commonplace around the world very soon.” More details will be revealed soon.

United to Offer Complimentary Bag Delivery in London

Starting November 1, United Airlines will begin offering complimentary baggage delivery service to its Polaris business-class customers on flights from Newark Liberty International Airport to London Heathrow, who are staying at select Marriott hotels. “As our customers continue to demand greater convenience and choices, we will be ready to deliver, offering the caring, creative solutions that will keep them choosing United,” said Andrew Nocella, United’s chief commercial officer. The airline has been offering luggage delivery at select US airports for a fee via Bags VIP since 2013.

Gatwick Airport Tests New Ways of Boarding

For the next two months, Gate 101 at London Gatwick Airport will test new boarding techniques in a bid to make the process faster and more relaxing. A range of sequences will be tested, from seating people from the back row to the front or boarding window seats first, then middle seats and aisle seats. However, passengers with priority boarding, those who require special assistance and those traveling with young families will still board beforehand. Passengers will be instructed on how to board by staff and large screens displaying boarding information will be placed at Gate 101 during the trial.

Flame Distribution Reveals New Content Ahead of FTE-APEX Asia EXPO

Flame Distribution has launched over 280 hours of new content that will be available to buyers at FTE-APEX Asia EXPO, which will include the first-ever APEX Asia Content Market. Highlights include series such as Predator Bloodlines, which captures the daily lives of six animals in Africa, and a science and technology documentary called Our Infinite Universe, which explores the question of whether infinity exists. AirCarbon Exchange Allows Airlines to Offset Carbon Using Blockchain

A blockchain-based marketplace that allows the transportation industry to trade securitized carbon emissions has launched in Singapore. Set to be fully operational in 2020, the AirCarbon Exchange will provide a ready supply of credits approved by ICAO’s Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA) so airlines and other parties can acquire CO2 offsets. Each credit, securitized into a token using blockchain technology, is worth one equivalent tonne of CORSIA-compliant carbon credits. The first AirCarbon digital token was minted during the Asia Clean Energy Summit 2019.

JetBlue Introduces Live Chat on Mobile App

Passengers can now communicate with JetBlue’s customer support teams via live chat within the airline’s mobile app. The feature was introduced in partnership with Gladly, which rolled out a platform in 2017 enabling customers to have a continuous conversation with JetBlue’s customer-service personnel across its various communication channels. The in-app live chat function is currently only available on iPhones, but will be rolled out to Android devices in early November.

COX & ZHA Win Competition to Design Western Sydney Airport

A design team comprising Australia’s COX Architecture and international design firm Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA) has won the competition to design Australia’s new Western Sydney (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport. The team said their vision incorporates the extensive use of daylight, natural ventilation and water recycling to create a modular, energy-efficient design. According to the designers, the building will also be sensitive to its local context, reflecting both the natural landscape and the cultural heritage of the area’s indigenous inhabitants.
