Emirates Introduces In-Flight Shopping Channel

Emirates has developed a new in-flight retail program, called EmiratesRED, offering passengers the ability to purchase duty- and tax-free items from the Emirates Official Store and unique experiences in Dubai and beyond. The airline has also debuted EmiratesRED TV, a dedicated shopping channel on its in-flight entertainment system, to introduce some of the experts behind the products available on board. Since EmiratesRED launched on October 1, the airline has seen a 23% increase in sales and a 10% increase in sales per customer.

Fastjet Tanzania to Be Liquidated, Crushing Plans for Revival

A Tanzanian court has declared low-cost carrier Fastjet Tanzania insolvent and has appointed a liquidator for the carrier to bring its business to a close. The airline has been trying to restore its services since January, when its operating license expired after failing to meet the Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority’s (TCAA) standards, including the payment of licensing fees. The TCAA has said that the liquidation disqualifies the airline from receiving an operating license.

Thales Unveils PureFlyt, a Flight Management System for Connected Aircraft

Thales has developed a flight management system designed for aircraft operating in a connected ecosystem. Called PureFlyt, the system rolls avionics, connectivity and air traffic management into one service to offer airlines safety, security and fuel and operation efficiency. Blending onboard and real-time data, the system will enable crewmembers to make better decisions and react more quickly when a flight path needs to be changed or to navigate a crowded airspace during departure or approach, for example. The system will also implement Initial 4D trajectory management methods and will be available for entry into service in 2024 for linefit and retrofit.

Panasonic Launches API for Its Facial Recognition Technology

Panasonic Corporation announced yesterday that it will begin offering an application programming interface (API) for its facial recognition technology to the Japanese market. This API allows Panasonic to provide on-premises and cloud-based solutions for customers such as airports. Panasonic has deployed 137 facial recognition gates for passport control at airports in Japan since 2017, and in August, it was awarded a contract to deliver 66 more.

TSI Seats to Feature in Airbus’ Buyer Furnished Equipment Catalog

From the first quarter of 2020, TSI Seats’ Skysofa and Epianka economy-class products will be featured in the future products section of Airbus’ Buyer Furnished Equipment (BFE) catalog for the A350 XWB, A330 and A320 aircraft families. Further seating models, such as TSI Seats’ Elesa S economy-class seat, and its first business-class product, Royalux, will also be added to the potential future products section of the catalog once they have completed their certification phase. The agreement builds on an existing cooperation between Airbus and TSI Seats, which has been in place since 2015.

Gulf Air Signs Multiyear Agreement With ATPCO

Gulf Air is to integrate ATPCO’s Routehappy Rich Content on both its website and on key regional and global third-party sales channels. ATPCO will also support the airline in creating and structuring its new branded fares, crafting its Universal Product Attributes (UPAs) – descriptions of Gulf Air’s products and services – as well as providing UX consulting and design. Indirect channels will go live with Gulf Air’s UPA content in December, with integration on Gulf Air’s website scheduled for the second quarter of 2020.
