IATA Challenges Airlines to Advance Environmental Initiatives

In alignment with APEX, Alexandre de Juniac, director general and CEO of IATA, has underlined the airline industry’s commitment to advancing the UN Sustainable Development Goals. “Aviation plays a part in achieving 15 of the 17 [goals], indicating the fundamental relevance of this industry in addressing humankind’s toughest challenges,” he stated at the IATA Global Media Day. IATA and APEX continue to collaborate through the Air Transport Action Group (ATAG) to cut all airline industry emissions to half the level of 2005.

Recaro Expands Production Facility in China

Recaro Aircraft Seating has inaugurated a newly expanded production facility in Qingdao, China. Measuring approximately 80,700 square feet, the new facility is provisioned to accommodate up to five new assembly lines, increasing the maximum production capacity of Recaro’s China plant to 60,000 seats per year. The inauguration marks the conclusion of the second phase of the company’s space2grow initiative, a major global expansion project started in 2018 with the aim of acquiring additional land and investing in new buildings and renovations. Recaro has been operating in Qingdao for over six years.

Ugly Holiday Sweater Wearers Get Priority on Alaska Airlines

Alaska Airlines is offering priority boarding for travelers wearing their holiday spirit on their sleeve on December 20, National Ugly Sweater Day. The annual one-day promotion (now in its third year) will also be extended to guests on Horizon Air flights. To spread the holiday cheer on board, flights will feature festive décor, boarding music and free holiday movies. "We know holiday travel can be stressful for some, which is why we've made sure flying with the 'merrier carrier' this time of year is an experience that brings nonstop joy to all our guests,” said Natalie Bowman, Alaska Airlines managing director of Marketing and Advertising.

British Airways Introduces New Catering on Gatwick Flights

In-flight caterer Newrest is working with suppliers in the South of England to provide quality local ingredients to British Airways (BA) passengers traveling from London Gatwick. New menus are now available in all cabins on long-haul flights and to passengers traveling in Club Europe, BA’s regional business class. They menu varies by route, but a sample of the main courses on offer in Club World, BA’s business-class cabin, include a seared fillet of cod, butter beans with saffron, crispy chorizo and smoked paprika; or pan-fried Parmesan polenta, wild mushroom ragoût, wilted greens and savoury walnut granola. Short-haul economy-class passengers will continue to have the option of purchasing Marks & Spencer products on board.

Burrana Appoints New Chief Financial Officer

Scott Richardson is to take up the role of chief financial officer (CFO) at Burrana from January 1, 2020. As CFO, Richardson will oversee the company’s global finance team, as well as the management of cash flow, financial planning and equity activities. He will replace Andrew Mullis, who has served as CFO at Burrana for the past six years. Richardson holds a Bachelor of Business degree from Queensland University of Technology as well as a graduate diploma in Business Administration from Deakin University.

Aeolus to Update Royal Brunei’s Business-Class Amenity Kits

Hong Kong-based amenities supplier Aeolus is to update its business-class amenity kits for Royal Brunei Airlines, which were introduced in October 2018. The kits feature skincare products from Thailand-based HARNN, which takes inspiration from Asian holistic practices to help restore the natural balance of body and mind when traveling. The updated versions will feature products from HARNN’s Cymbopogon collection including a body lotion and lip balm. Travelers who visit Royal Brunei’s lounges will also be able to use HARNN’s Cymbopogon hand wash and body moisturizer.
