[PHOTOS] Spirit Airlines Unveils New Cabin Interior Design

Spirit Airlines’ latest A320neo aircraft is the first to feature the new cabin interior design that president and CEO Ted Christie revealed at APEX EXPO in  September. Equipped with premium Big Front Seats from HAECO Cabin Solutions and an economy product from Acro Aircraft Seating, the cabin also features a new black and yellow color scheme, as well as fresh carpets and signage. The fresh cabin interior will be installed on nearly 150 new Airbus A320 family aircraft set to be delivered to Spirit over the next several years.

KLM Tests Closed-Loop Recycling for Catering Supplies

As part of its “Fly Responsibly” initiative, KLM is testing a closed-loop recycling system for its catering supplies. The test, which is taking place on a flight from Amsterdam to Vancouver, will make use of specially adapted products. “The dessert and salad bowls, lids and glasses for the flight on December 18 are made of a material with a lower specific gravity than the original. It now can be washed in accordance with the law and properly recycled into new catering equipment,” explained Martine van Streun, director, Cabin Product and Service Engineering, KLM.

Inflight VR’s Solution Introduced on Evelop’s A350

Passengers traveling in Turista Plus on Evelop Airlines’ flights to Cancun, Punta Cana and Havana will now have access to Inflight VR’s virtual reality entertainment solution free of charge. While it will initially only be deployed on Evelop’s Airbus A350 aircraft, the solution could be rolled out across the carrier’s entire fleet if it receives positive feedback. Using Inflight VR’s headsets, passengers will be able to explore Evelop’s destinations, relax through guided meditation or watch movies in their own private theater.

Juneyao Airlines Opts for All-Recaro Seating on A320neo

Shanghai-based Juneyao Airlines has debuted its new Airbus A320neo, equipped with Recaro seating in all cabins. In business class, the carrier has opted for Recaro’s CL4710 seats, becoming the launch customer for the product in Asia. Each seat features a tablet holder with a power outletintegrated into the in-arm table, as well as a flexible headrest and an individually adjustable calf rest. In economy class, the carrier has installed Recaro’s lightweight BL3530 SWIFT product, which also includes a tablet holder and power supply.

Air France­–KLM Orders 60 A220-300 Aircraft

The Air France–KLM Group has firmed up an order for 60 Airbus A220-300 aircraft for Air France. “The largest Airbus A220 order from a European carrier to date speaks volumes on Air France’s ambitious sustainability drive. The modern and fuel-efficient Airbus A220 will contribute to lower fuel burn and CO2 emissions significantly compared to older generation aircraft,” said Christian Scherer, Airbus’ chief commercial officer. The news comes in addition to Air France’s recent firm order for ten extra A350-900s.

Air Canada Rouge Wi-Fi Installations Complete

Air Canada has completed the installation of Gogo’s satellite in-flight connectivity (IFC) solution across the Air Canada Rouge fleet. In-flight Wi-Fi is now available on each of Air Canada Rouge’s 65 aircraft, with a range of packages starting from approximately $6.50. Passengers simply connect to the “Rouge Wi-Fi” network on board and follow the instructions to access the service. The carrier is hoping to complete IFC installations on its mainline fleet by early 2020.

Delta to Purchase Corn-Based Biofuel Annually From Gevo

Delta Air Lines has signed an agreement to purchase (38 million liters) of biofuel from Gevo each year. The biofuel will be made at Gevo’s facility in Luverne, Minnesota, from “inedible, industrial corn products,” using a patented process that separates the sugar from the proteins in the corn product. “The sugars are then used to make the jet fuel, while the proteins are fed to livestock,” Gevo said. The fuel will be available to Delta between 2022 and 2023.
