Arrest Warrant Issued for Former SriLankan CEO

Sri Lankan authorities have ordered the arrest of Kapila Chandrasena, CEO of SriLankan Airlines from 2011–2015, and his wife Priyanka Niyomali Wijenayake, both of whom are at large. Airbus employees had reportedly offered up to $16.84 million to Wijenayake to influence SriLankan to purchase 10 Airbus aircraft and lease an additional four in 2013. The investigation, conducted by UK authorities, also found that Airbus had agreed to pay $5 million to Wijenayake if SriLankan didn’t purchase any competitor aircraft at the time. SriLankan released a statement directing management to cooperate fully with the investigation and “study all available internal documentation with a view to take all possible corrective future action.”
