Spicejet Launches Wireless IFE for 1% of Cost of Previous System

Spicejet has revamped its IFE system with the help of an Indian startup. SpiceScreen offers movies, TV shows, cartoons and other content for passengers to watch on their personal devices. The media is stored on, and served from, Android phones. Each phone weighs seven ounces and can serve 40 customers simultaneously. Ajay Singh, the airline’s chairman and managing director, said that the revamped SpiceScreen system is costing the airline “barely one per cent” of what it was paying its previous IFE provider.

French Law Bans Reusable Masks on Aircraft; Southwest Clarifies Requirements

Some passengers were refused boarding on an easyJet flight because they were wearing reusable masks, and one passenger was told to remove their hospital-grade mask. The airline was following a government mandate that stipulates the only acceptable mask type to be used while flying is the disposable surgical model, which typically comes in blue or green. Meanwhile, Southwest issued a clarification on the kinds of masks it deems acceptable. It will not permit travelers to wear masks with exhaust valves, bandanas or face shields without a nose and mouth covering.

Delta Pledges More Inclusion of People of Color

Delta Air Lines pledged to double its number of top-level Black officers by 2025 and increase PoC representation among its leadership and board. CEO Ed Bastian called for every company leader to take “personal, vested ownership in solving the burdens Black and Brown communities have been carrying for too long,” and promised accountability for the new measures. While 21% of Delta’s workforce is Black, just 7% are present in the company’s top 100 officers. Delta has revamped its hiring practices by removing qualification barriers for roles that don't require college degrees and expanding recruiting efforts at historically Black schools.
