Lufthansa Eyes Full Takeover Of ITA Airways For New Rome Hub

Lufthansa could take full ownership of Italy’s ITA Airways, the state-backed reboot of Alitalia. Lufthansa is poised to take an initial 40% stake in ITA, with an option to eventually increase its shareholding to 100%. The move would see Rome become the Lufthansa Group’s fifth hub, serving as a southern European link alongside Frankfurt, Munich, Zurich and Vienna. ITA had started flying in October 2021, replacing Italy’s 75-year-old carrier Alitalia, which was grounded after years of losses and failed rescue attempts.

airBaltic Forced To Wet Lease Aircraft Amid A220 MRO Delays

airBaltic will be forced to wet lease aircraft during the summer amid Airbus A220 MRO delays. Due to lifetime limited parts in the A220 engines, the engines need to be taken off the wing and shipped to specialist MRO providers, to replace the parts. The process which generally took 90 days, now takes nearly 8 months post pandemic. The extended delays have not left the airline with enough spare aircraft to offset the engines under maintenance and continue operations. Last summer too airBaltic had wet-leased 6 airplanes.
