Air India Reportedly Close To Placing Half Of Its Mega Aircraft Order

Air India will seal half of an order with Boeing and engine suppliers General Electric and CFM International on Friday, as its new owner seeks to revive the airline. The airline is expected to add around 500 latest-generation narrowbody and widebody planes from both Boeing and Airbus in the next five to ten years. This order has around 190 Boeing 737 MAX, 20 787s, and ten 777X aircraft. The second half of the order includes about 235 Airbus single-aisle jets and about 40 Airbus A350 widebody aircraft.

Boom Supersonic Begins Construction On Overture Superfactory

Boom Supersonic, the company building the world’s fastest airliner, kicked off construction of its Overture Superfactory today in Greensboro, North Carolina. The Overture Superfactory is a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility located on a 62-acre campus at the Piedmont Triad International Airport. This site will house the final assembly line, as well as test facility, and customer delivery center for Boom’s flagship supersonic airliner, Overture. By 2032, Boom will hire more than 2,400 workers at the Superfactory.

SWISS Extends Premium Economy Class To Its A340 fleet

SWISS has begun installing its new Premium Economy Class on its A340-300 fleet. The first completed aircraft departed for Johannesburg yesterday evening on its first flight with the new seating class installed. All four of SWISS’s A340s will be equipped with Premium Economy by April of this year. From the same date, Premium Economy Class will also be newly bookable for SWISS services on the Zurich-Johannesburg, Zurich-Hong Kong and Zurich-Chicago routes. SWISS has already installed Premium Economy Class throughout its 777-300ER fleet.

Croatia Airlines To Roll Out On Board Wi-Fi And Product Upgrade

Croatia Airlines’ incoming Airbus A220 fleet will feature on board Wi-Fi. The company will install Wi-Fi across its two A220-100 and four A220-300 jets, which will be delivered early next year and throughout 2025. The carrier plans to eventually replace its entire fleet with the A220s, with a further six to be delivered in 2025 and 2026. Croatia Airlines’ A220 passengers will be able to enjoy broadband services on their Wi-Fi/WLAN enabled devices including smartphones, tablets, and laptops.

ITA Airways Volare And Accor ALL Programs Launch Two-Way Points Conversion

ITA Airways and Accor have announced a new partnership allowing points to be converted in either direction across the group’s loyalty schemes. From January 26 4000 Volare points can be converted into 1000 ALL Reward points, while in the other direction 4000 ALL Reward points will get members 5000 Volare points. ITA unveiled its revenue-based Volare scheme in March last year, and says that it now has over 800,000 members.

Elenium To Provide Bag-Drop Units And Self-Service Kiosks To Queenstown Airport

Automated self-service solutions company Elenium has been selected by Queenstown Airport in New Zealand to provide six bag-drop units and nine self-service kiosks by June 2023. This installation forms part of the airport’s planned airport upgrade program – in addition to the 15 kiosks that were installed in 2019, along with full management and monitoring software. According to Elenium, this automation project will speed up the airport’s check-in process and could reduce passenger congestion by up to 60%.

Qatar Airways Privilege Club and Duty Free Allow Avios At Hamad International

In an industry first, from 24 January members of Qatar Airways Privilege Club (QRPC) will be able to collect and spend Avios at almost 200 outlets at Hamad International Airport (HIA) in partnership with Qatar Duty Free (QDF). Passengers at all departure points will be rewarded with Avios points upon check in which will be credited up to 120 minutes before flight's departure. This will allow members of Qatar Airways Privilege Club to collect and spend Avios at the airport.
