Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) is set to welcome 12 new aircraft in 2024, including its first Airbus A330-900 (A330 neo) arriving in the third quarter. Swiss Study Finds Blended-Wing Aircraft Less Noisy

Researchers at the Swiss laboratory Empa have found that new blended-wing body (BWB) aircraft could greatly reduce noise pollution at airports. These aircraft, designed with a fuselage that merges into the wings, create less air resistance and consume less fuel. Empa's simulations revealed that BWB aircraft, combined with noise-reducing technologies like low-emission engines, were rated 4.3 units quieter than conventional jets. The primary noise reduction comes from the aircraft's shape, which effectively shields engine noise downwards.

Eutelsat Flags OneWeb Ground Network Delay As It Cuts Guidance

Eutelsat Group has lowered its fiscal year 2023-2024 earnings forecast and suspended its fiscal 2025 guidance due to delays in the ground network rollout for OneWeb's Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite constellation and other factors. Despite having all satellites in place and a $1.1 billion backlog, OneWeb's progress lags behind its original schedule. The ground network delays affect revenues, especially in mobility and specific geographies awaiting market access. OneWeb, a partner to Intelsat, Panasonic Avionics, Gogo, and Satcom Direct for inflight connectivity, planned to launch its commercial aero service in 2023 but delayed it to early 2024.

UK Government Seeks Toxic Gas Detection Systems For Enclosed Public Places

The UK's Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA) has initiated the “Rapid Detection of Toxic Gases” Themed Competition, backed by £1.6 million funding from the Home Office. The focus is on early warning systems for air quality monitoring to promptly identify unsafe toxic gas levels, estimate concentrations, and minimize false alarms. The ideal solutions should be capable of integrating into future smart facility management systems and cover a broad range of chemical hazards, with a preference for detecting colorless or odorless gases that pose immediate threats without obvious sensory cues.
