Thai Airways Orders 45 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner Aircraft, Deliveries To Start In 2027

Thai Airways has secured an order for up to 80 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft, comprising a firm order for 45 aircraft and options for 35 more. The delivery for the aircraft is set to start in 2027. This deal, concluded in December 2023 and initially listed under an undisclosed customer, was revealed in conjunction with the Singapore Airshow. Amid financial struggles and the pandemic's impact, Thai Airways aims to leverage Thailand's travel appeal with a sustainable fleet expansion, marking a significant step in its transformation.

APEX TECH Panel Preview: Edge Caching In The Content Delivery Supply Chain

Next week's APEX TECH event will feature a panel session on "The Integration of IFE & C: Edge Caching in the Content Delivery Supply Chain." Edge caching, which moderator and Chief Systems Engineer, Panasonic Avionics, Phil Watson defines as "storing internet streaming content on aircraft," can reduce bandwidth usage and video startup times. oneworld Opens Amsterdam Lounge

oneworld has unveiled its second branded lounge of 2024 at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, spanning 473 sqm in the non-Schengen area, designed in partnership with ASPIRE. Inspired by Amsterdam's iconic arched canal bridges and local birdlife, the lounge features unique design elements, including lighting and decorative bird silhouettes. Open daily for eligible oneworld customers, it offers buffet dining, a full-service bar, and shower facilities. Located on the site of the former British Airways lounge, it serves eight oneworld member airlines.

Fast, Free Wi-Fi Coming To Qantas International Flights This Year

Qantas is accelerating its Wi-Fi rollout for international flights to the end of 2024, covering its Airbus A330, Boeing 787, and A380 fleets. The service, part of a digital transformation, will offer fast and free Internet access. Retrofitting begins in March 2024, with Wi-Fi availability pending the launch of a new ViaSat satellite for South East Asia coverage. Despite manufacturing delays pushing 'Project Sunrise' to mid-2026, some routes already enjoy partial Wi-Fi coverage over Australia using NBN Sky Muster satellites.

Etihad Airways Introduces Luxury Amenities Across Cabins

Giorgio Armani and Etihad introduce stylish Business Class amenity kits, including a clutch and a cube design, inspired by Abu Dhabi's Liwa desert and practical for post-flight use. These kits contain ESPA skincare products for enhanced travel well-being. First Class and The Residence passengers receive a spacious folio bag, suitable for documents or a laptop, and luxury ESPA products. Business Class on long-haul flights and Economy on flights over six hours also receive specially designed comfort items, emphasizing sustainability with reusable bags made from recycled PET bottles.

Menzies Airport Servicer Installs Solar Farm At Prague Airport

Menzies Aviation has launched a solar farm with nearly 900 panels atop its cargo facility at Prague's Václav Havel Airport, projected to generate 350 megawatt hours annually. This initiative aims to cut Prague emissions by 25% through powering warehouse operations and charging electric ground support equipment (GSE), aligning with Menzies' sustainability goal to electrify 25% of its GSE by next year and achieve net-zero emissions by 2045. Air India Secures 12-year Agreement With SIA Engineering For A320 Fleet's Support And Expansion

Air India is enhancing its fleet maintenance and operational efficiency by partnering with SIAEC for Inventory Technical Management (ITM). With around 60 A320 family aircraft in its current fleet of 123, Air India has ordered an additional 210 A320 family aircraft, demonstrating its commitment to fleet expansion and modernization. CEO Campbell Wilson believes this collaboration will bolster Air India's repair and maintenance capabilities for the A320 family, improving operational reliability.
