Turkish Airlines' All-New 'Crystal' Business Class Suite

Turkish Airlines is set to unveil its all new 'Crystal' business class suite in May at the Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg. These suites, featuring sliding doors and advanced comfort features, will be introduced on the airline's Boeing 777 fleet starting early 2025 and on new Airbus A350-1000 jets flying non-stop to Sydney and Melbourne from late 2026. Despite the airlines' plans to retire older 777s, delays in new aircraft deliveries mean these planes will remain in service longer. The Crystal suites are a unique design by Turkish Cabin Interior and aim to elevate the flying experience.

Boeing Delivery Delays Force Ryanair To Trim Summer Flights

Ryanair has adjusted its annual passenger forecast, reducing it by five million due to delays in receiving 57 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. The airline is now expecting only 40 737 MAX aircraft by the end of June. Consequently, the carrier has decreased its flight frequencies, affecting Dublin, Milan Malpensa, Warsaw Modlin, and four Portuguese locations, attributing some decisions to increased airport charges. The airline is now targeting between between 198 and 200 million passengers for the full year until March 2025, down from the previous 205 million.

Lufthansa To Cancel Most Flights On Thursday & Friday

Verdi, the trade union for Lufthansa's ground staff in Germany, has announced a 51-hour strike from early Thursday, March 7, 2024, to Saturday, March 9, 2024. This marks the third and longest strike in recent weeks, with previous strikes occurring on February 8 and February 20, 2024. The 25,000 ground staff are demanding a 12.5% wage increase and a €3,000 one-off payment to combat inflation and acknowledge their increased workload due to staff shortages. During similar past strikes, Lufthansa operated only 10-20% of its flights, leading to significant travel disruptions. Passengers are advised to check Lufthansa's travel disruptions page for the latest schedule changes.

OneWeb-Powered Galileo To Be Competitively Priced To Starlink: Gogo

Gogo Business Aviation aims to price its Galileo inflight connectivity service, powered by OneWeb's Ku-band LEO satellites, competitively against SpaceX's Starlink Aviation for the business aviation market. The company is ahead of schedule with its HDX antenna development, expecting flight tests and certification soon. Gogo will offer Galileo as both a standalone and hybrid solution with its ATG platform for comprehensive coverage, except in certain countries due to geopolitical reasons. Despite Starlink's entry, Gogo doesn't view it as a direct threat to its ATG business, citing antenna size suitability for larger aircraft as a differentiating factor.

Aviation's Safest Year In 2023, As Passenger Traffic Rise Projected

2023 was one of commercial aviation's safest years, with passenger numbers surpassing 2019 levels on major routes and total traffic expected to exceed pre-pandemic figures in 2024. The International Air Transport Association (IATA) reported no hull losses or fatal passenger jet accidents in 2023, despite a 17% rise in aircraft movements. A sole fatal turboprop crash killed 72, but the overall accident rate dropped to 0.8 per million sectors, making 2023 exceptionally safe for air travel, despite increases in accident rates in North America and Asia-Pacific, including a fatal crash in Nepal.

> Quote of the Day

"We expect these latest Boeing delivery delays, which regrettably are beyond Ryanair's control, combined with the grounding of up to 20 per cent of our Airbus competitors' A320 fleets in Europe, will lead to more constrained capacity and slightly higher air fares for consumers in Europe in summer 2024."

Ryanair Group CEO, Michael O'Leary
