Cathay Pacific To Launch Flatbed Regional Business Class

Cathay Pacific will upgrade its regional Airbus A330 jets following the launch of its new Boeing 777 seats. The A330 regional business class will feature fully lie-flat beds instead of recliners, with the upgrade and economy class update starting in 2026. Cathay is investigating a new A330 business class seat and may streamline the current mix of five cabin layouts. The decision to include lie-flat beds will be welcomed by travelers on overnight flights within Asia and puts to rest speculation about using regional business class recliners on these routes.

World's Largest Liquid Hydrogen-Powered Aircraft Engine Tested In US

Universal Hydrogen has completed the largest test of a liquid hydrogen-powered aircraft powertrain, using a 1-megawatt fuel cell. The company previously flew a 40-seater Dash-8 aircraft fueled by hydrogen, but switching to liquid hydrogen could increase range and reduce the fuel system's footprint, allowing for more seats. Universal Hydrogen's liquid hydrogen system, designed to fuel regional aircraft like Dash-8 or ATR-72, is about the size of an air freight container and can be swapped using the same equipment for cargo shipments, addressing the economic challenges of going greener.

Telesat On Why The Wait For Lightspeed Will Be Worth It In Aero

Telesat's Lightspeed Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite network, though delayed, is expected to offer global service with a 198-satellite Ka-band network in 2027. Telesat is pursuing an 'open system' approach, staying open to both mechanically steered and electronically steered antennas and adhering to standards for maximum flexibility. This 'plug and play' approach could allow operators using ThinKom Solutions' VICTS hardware for Ka-band GEO connectivity to augment their service with Lightspeed Ka LEO or potentially move entirely to a Lightspeed-powered IFC solution in the future, depending on passenger demand.

Denmark Introduces Green Tax On Air Passengers From 2025

Denmark has agreed to impose a tax on air passengers to help finance the airline industry's transition to greener practices. The tax will be gradually phased in from 2025, reaching around 50 Danish crowns ($7.35) per passenger for intra-European flights, 310 crowns for medium-distance flights, and 410 for long-distance flights by 2030. The government aims to enable all domestic flights to use 100% sustainable fuels by 2030, with transit flights leaving after a stop-over in a Danish airport being exempted from the tax.
