In an exclusive interview, Dr Joe Leader, CEO of APEX/IFSA shares that this week’s APEX TECH 2023 focuses on the in-flight technological convergence centered around airline passengers. He believes we have finally arrived at the long-promised nirvana where customer experience, connectivity, in-flight entertainment, and increased revenue aligned. LIFT Aircraft Completes First Piloted Flight with HEXA

LIFT Aircraft has conducted the first-ever piloted eVTOL demonstration flights in Japan using its HEXA aircraft. The flights were performed in collaboration with Marubeni Corporation, LIFT Aircraft’s partner for the development and advancement of Japan’s eVTOL market, as well as with the participation of GMO Internet Group. The demonstration flights were chosen for the Osaka Prefectural Government’s FY2022 Subsidy for Urban Business Creation Flying Car Projects and as a Candidate Demonstrator for Expo 2025, the Japan Association’s project for the 2025 World Exposition.

APEX TECH 2023: Meet Incoming APEX TECH Chair Jonas von Kruechten

Jonas von Kruechten is the Head of Strategy and Business Development at AERQ. Aside from leading the foundation of AERQ for Lufthansa Technik, von Kruechten previously worked at Lufthansa Technik doing business development for IFE/CMS systems for business jets. He believes APEX TECH can play an increasing role in looking at technology more holistically by adding more discussions around use cases, customer benefits and/or pains solved. As a result, it can also increase the relevance of the conversation for airlines and other stakeholders from aviation or adjacent industries.

APEX TECH Preview: Driving Personalization, Ancillary Revenue, And Brand Reinforcement

Industry veteran Peter Lemme has been working in commercial aviation for 42 years, dealing with standards, avionics engineering and certification of automatic flight controls, satellite communications, safety and non-safety data link, data recording, and inflight connectivity (IFC). He believes airlines have had limited success with monetizing advertising and third-party promotions in a meaningful way. Lemme will be moderating this afternoon’s panel discussion “Driving Personalization, Ancillary Revenue, and Brand Reinforcement”, featuring Mark Cheyney of IAG loyalty; Simon Vaughan, chief commercial officer with GlobalReach; and Edward Kyte of Inmarsat.

Japanese Meal In United Airlines Business Class

United Airlines plans to reintroduce Japanese meals onboard for the first time since the pandemic began in March 2020. In the past, Japanese meals were available onboard on flights to and from Japan or could be pre-ordered. The meal begins with an appetizer similar to a traditional bento box with an assortment of items like Zensai, Sakizuku, and Kobachi. The main course is either a fish or pork-based dish and dessert options include ice cream sundae, cheese plate, and cake.

Turkish Airlines Debuts New Lounge At JFK

Turkish Airlines has opened its new lounge in New York at Terminal 1 of John F. Kennedy International Airport. The lounge encompasses Turkish inspiration, on par with the airline’s comfort, hospitality, and design. With an area of nearly 4,600 sq feet, it can accommodate up to 140 guests. The lounge is available for business class passengers and all Elite and Elite plus members of Turkish Airlines’ frequent flyer program. Star Alliance members’ first, business class, and Gold card holders flying on any member airline can also access the lounge.
