APEX TECH: Dr. Joe Leader’s In-Depth Chat With JetBlue’s Mariya Stoyanova

Dr. Joe Leader sat down for a chat about PaxEx, partnerships and JetBlue-isms like Cuddle Mode and JetFlix with JetBlue Director of Product Development, Mariya Stoyanova. Dr Leader began by saying that we are living in probably one of the most exciting times in our industry, where we’re going to see massive changes in how things are done. Some of our airlines are already doing away with sneakernet and downloading all of their new in-flight entertainment content through connectivity without anyone having to come on board and swap that out on a monthly basis.

Wrapping up the afternoon panel discussions yesterday, Inadvia Director, Mathew Blay and airline media sales vets Mary Rae Esposito, Director of Sales, North America, Spafax and Chris Demange, Director – Media & Partnerships, Viasat, pondered the question: Can ad-supported D2C IFE become a revenue generator for the airlines? Although Blay promised to take a deeper dive into the subject on day three of the TECH, judging from the raft of airline-centric questions yesterday, Blay and company were obviously onto something big.

Qantas Is Upgrading Its Menus On All Domestic, International Flights

Qantas is rolling out a “bigger and better” menu offering across its full domestic and international network this month, both on the ground and in the air. The overhaul will include replacing the ‘refreshment’ meal towards the end of business class flights to Hong Kong, Bangkok, Tokyo and Seoul with a more substantial dinner. The popular Ploughman’s Platter is also making a comeback on domestic business class routes as a lighter alternative to a full meal, while longer domestic flights such as east-west routes will gain a starter such as grilled prawns or Tasmanian smoked salmon.

> Quote of the Day

“You’re going to see what I would call dynamic content changes, where if something is underperforming it is replaced by something that would perform better with passengers, or a dynamic content change that we’ve seen done by several airlines offering up the newest content.”
