Heathrow Strikes In May Could Disrupt Travel To UK For Charles’s Coronation

Security staff at Heathrow airport are to strike on eight days next month in a dispute over pay. The action by members of the Unite union will take place on 4, 5, 6, 9, 10, 25, 26 and 27 May. Unite said the action next month would cause inevitable disruption and delays at a time when people were expected to be traveling to the UK for King Charles’s coronation. The 1,400 security officers involved in the dispute took 10 days of action from 31 March. Heathrow said it had been engaged in talks with Unite for months, and has also offered a 10% pay increase since January.

Airlines Warn EU’s International Catering Waste Law Stalls Circular Economy

Major airlines, airports and caterers are warning that EU animal agriculture rules are hampering their ability to recycle packaging and food waste. The current regulation requires that all international catering waste (ICW) is incinerated or buried to avoid animal disease outbreaks. The sector’s belief in a potential regulatory review is echoed by Dr. Joe Leader, CEO of the International Flight Services Association (IFSA). He tells PackagingInsights that the IFSA and its coalition partners are reinforcing their position with “greater pressure for swift and proactive action.”

Austin-Bergstrom International Airport has launched a new accessibility service for passengers with non-visible disabilities via the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Programme, which aims to raise awareness of and support individuals with autism, anxiety disorders, dementia, Crohn’s disease and more. As part of the programme, passengers – or their companions – with non-visible disabilities can order a Sunflower lanyard to wear while at the airport. The green lanyard with sunflowers works as a visual cue and discreet way to indicate to airport staff and other passengers that the wearer, or someone with them, has a non-visible disability.

Aeroporti Di Roma Transforms Passenger Experience And Future-Proofs Security Checkpoints

Aeroporti di Roma has streamlined the security experience at Fiumicino Airport with new Computed Tomography (CT) technology. The Smith Detection’s HI-SCAN 6040 CTiX technology allows passengers to leave electronics and liquids in bags rather than removing them for screening. This improves customer experience and security effectiveness, and reduces waiting times. The high-resolution volumetric 3D images enable quicker and deeper baggage assessment, automatic explosives detection and low false-alarm rates. Currently operational at the main checkpoint in Terminal 1, the CT technology will also be introduced in Terminal 3.
