easyJet CEO Says French ATC Strikes Impacted 10 Million People

British low-cost carrier easyJet is concerned about the impact of the French air traffic strike. According to the AFP report, easyJet CEO Johan Lundgren bluntly remarked that the situation involving French air traffic controllers striking over pension reform, is “quite unacceptable” as over ten million people are affected. Lundgren has also written to the French government asking for more air traffic control services. Irish low-cost carrier Ryanair concurs with sentiment and is irate with the strike’s impact on overflights of France.

MATAR, the Qatar Company for Airports Operation and Management, has partnered with Aeroficial Intelligence to implement smart digital solutions at Hamad Airport. Aeroficial Intelligence specializes in empowering airports with its operations software, Performance Cockpit. Powered by AI, Performance Cockpit runs on surveillance data as a turnkey and off-the-shelf digital solution. Norwegian Renews IFC Contract With Anuvu

Norwegian has renewed and extended its inflight internet partnership with Anuvu. Under the deal the carrier will upgrade currently installed IFC hardware to its Dedicated Space™ technology. The newer connectivity solution will also fly on the carrier’s pending 737 MAX orders, scheduled for delivery through 2030. The Dedicated Space solution combines advanced modem technology with a dynamic Network Management System (NMS) to optimize network performance. The solution also provides faster satellite handover times, typically less than one second. The carrier will be the first in Europe to implement the Dedicated Space offering.

Aeroporti di Roma Opens New Boarding Area In Fiumicino Airport’s Terminal 1

Aeroporti di Roma has opened a new boarding area in Fiumicino Airport’s Terminal 1, featuring a completely renewed 25,000sqm pier and a new square. The focus is on “quality, sustainability and innovation”. Among the innovations for passengers is the possibility to scan a QR code at the boarding gates and listen via podcast to a guide to their destination. The project includes 12 new boarding bridges and 44 self-boarding gates. In addition, a new baggage handling system has been installed in the arrivals area with capacity for an additional three million passengers a year.

Qatar’s Massive New Al Mourjan Business Lounge Has Its Own Day Spa

Qatar Airways’ long-teased second Al Mourjan business lounge at Doha Airport is finally open, and the roll call of features within the vast 7,000 sqm space dubbed ‘The Garden’ are as impressive as you’d expect from the Gulf carrier. Perched overlooking the leafy ‘Orchard’ atrium at Concourse C, the new premium hangout is home to multiple dining venues, 24-hour quiet rooms, a gym with treadmills and exercise bikes, and even its own day spa offering seven treatment rooms.

ITA Airways Unveils New Uniforms And Hangar Lounge At Rome Fiumicino

ITA Airways has unveiled new uniforms and a new lounge at the Rome Fiumicino International Airport. The uniforms were created by Italian luxury fashion designer Brunello Cucinelli. The new Hangar Lounge at Rome Fiumicino is a 980 meter square facility, and can accommodate 150 guests. ITA also unveiled a new A320neo aircraft, named after figure-skating champion Carolina Kostner. The aircraft features interiors by Italian car designer Walter De Silva, which have been inspired by the pleasant sensations of comfort, elegance and simplicity.

Lyon Airport Announces 14 Hectare Solar Power Plant

Vinci Airports will launch a 14-hectare solar power plant at Lyon-Saint Exupéry Airport in France, which will cover 5,800 parking spaces at the airport. With a capacity of 20MWp, the plant is projected to produce 24GWh of green electricity annually, equivalent to the consumption of 9,000 people. Its production will be injected into the grid to supply the neighboring communities, avoiding emissions of nearly 1,600 tons of CO2 per year. The project has been validated by the French Ministry of Ecological Transition as the winner of the latest call for tenders issued by the French Energy Regulation Commission.
