Lufthansa A380s Won't Get New Allegris Business Class

Lufthansa's A380 superjumbos will receive a new business class seat, but not the long-awaited Allegris business class. The decision to introduce a different product was based on the limited time the A380s will remain in the fleet, as they were brought back due to capacity needs caused by Boeing 777-9 delivery delays. The new business class will offer all-aisle access, replacing the dated 2-2-2 configuration. The seat is a standard design from one of Lufthansa's manufacturers. The A380s will retain their existing first class, premium economy, and economy seats.

Delta Airbus A350s Get New Premium Configuration

Delta plans to introduce a new premium configuration on some of its Airbus A350-900s, featuring more business class seats. The overall capacity will decrease from 306 to 275 seats, with business class increasing from 32 to 40 seats, premium economy decreasing from 48 to 40 seats, and economy class decreasing from 190 to 159 seats. The first two routes expected to get this new configuration are Atlanta to Johannesburg and Atlanta to Cape Town. Delta has not yet revealed how many A350-900s will receive this layout or if it will be installed on all newly delivered A350s.

IATA Lobbies Against EU Emission MRV Plans

IATA is urging the European Commission and EU member states to reconsider potential new rules on monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) of non-CO2 emissions. The organization argues that current methods for measuring non-CO2 emissions are not as well-understood as those for measuring carbon dioxide, leading to incomplete and potentially inaccurate MRV schemes. IATA cites a Royal Society of Chemistry research paper that warns against recommending definitive courses of action until there is better quantification of the actual effects and further studies.

Lufthansa's Multi-Source IFE Sees SPI & PAC In Play

Lufthansa confirms that Safran Passenger Innovations (SPI) provided the new nose-to-tail embedded IFE for its first Allegris-fitted Airbus A350-900, set to begin service on the Munich-Vancouver route on May 1. SPI also supplied the companion displays in the Allegris business class cabin. The SPI hardware will support all other A350s slated to receive Allegris. Lufthansa continues to spread the IFE love around, with plans to fit its Boeing 747-8s with Panasonic's new Astrova IFE system as part of their Allegris refurbishment, while retaining core components of the current Panasonic IFE on its Airbus A380s.
