Etihad Airways Unveils New Boeing 787 Dreamliner Seats

Etihad Airways has unveiled new seats for its Boeing 787s, set to debut in Q3. Etihad chose the Elements seat from Collins for its business class and is the first airline worldwide to select the seat for a Dreamliner. The airline customized the seat, increasing the height of the suite from the original, which debuted on the Airbus A350. Technology is also getting a big upgrade, with significant additions to Etihad’s inflight entertainment system. Etihad has also selected new Wi-FI equipment from Viasat to offer high speeds and also provide live television.

FlyDubai Eyes Premium Travelers With New Business Suite

Middle Eastern carrier FlyDubai is continuing its push for the hearts and wallets of premium travelers, unveiling its latest single-aisle business class at the Arabian Travel Market this week. Debuting on select new Boeing 737 MAX from November, the ‘Business Suite’ is a collaboration between Safran Seats – the team behind Qantas’ sleek A350 business class – and JPA Design, who led Singapore Airlines’ A380 business class redesign. The reverse herringbone pew is based on Safran Seats’ VUE platform and is expected to takeoff on long-range routes.

Hong Kong Airport Launches First Autonomous Store

Hong Kong International Airport has unveiled an autonomous convenience store, travelwell, which offers instant grab-and-go purchases. Passengers can shop at travelwell by tapping their credit card at the entrance to enter the store. Using IoT sensing technology, the store tracks customers’ movements and shopping patterns, automatically detecting the items they select and eliminating the need for checkout queues. When they’re ready to leave, the sensor will detect the items they’ve purchased, and their credit card will be charged accordingly.

Airlines And Autism Double-Checked Design ASD Inclusive PaxEx

Flying can create stressful situations and sensory challenges for neurodiverse passengers. That’s why a growing number of carriers, including Breeze Airways, Flair Airlines, JSX, and LATAM, have partnered with Autism Double-Checked to design a passenger experience that is more inclusive. Autism Double-Checked is an organization dedicated to training employees to care for people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). For a company to be fully “Autism Double-Checked” certified, its customer-facing employees must undergo awareness training to understand the unique sensory situations faced by autistic passengers.

Virgin Atlantic Launches Partnership With Guide Dogs Charity

Virgin Atlantic and charity Guide Dogs have announced a long-term partnership to create a more inclusive air travel experience for those with sight loss. Guide Dogs will provide each cabin crew member with online resources, and offer bespoke training on how to support those flying with a visual impairment. The training covers how to approach someone with sight loss, navigating narrow or busy spaces, stairs, steps, and doorways, and taking a seat.

Korean Air Launches New Wine Selection On Seoul Incheon-London Route

Korean Air is rolling out a selection of new inflight wines on its Incheon-London route this month. Last year the flag carrier and its sommelier Sang Jun Lee collaborated with wine consultant Marc Almert, to taste, evaluate and select a total of 50 wines from a long-list of 900 wines. The final selection on the Seoul-London route includes 14 bottles from Australia, Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the US. First class passengers are offered a choice of 7 wines, while those in business class can pick from 5 bottles.

Norwegian Partners With Norsk E-Fuel To Build New E-Fuel Plant

Norwegian has partnered with Norsk e-Fuel to build the world’s first full scale e-fuel plant in Mosjøen, Norway. The plant will produce Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF), as Norwegian targets a 45% emissions reduction by 2030. The goal is to start producing e-fuels as early as 2026. The partnership with Norsk e-Fuel is estimated to secure approximately 20% of Norwegian’s total demand for SAF until 2030. In addition, Norwegian will also invest nearly NOK 50 million for a minority equity stake in the company.
