Sustainability Report Highlights 26% CO2 Reduction At Etihad Airways

Etihad Airways, like other airlines, was hit hard by the pandemic. However, as travel continues to bounce back, Etihad accrued record profits in the first half of 2022. The Abu Dhabi-based carrier has released its 2022 sustainability report, detailing its efforts toward sustainability. The report, published on May 18th, details the carriers commitment to sustainability through sustainable aviation fuel, reducing the use of plastics, and planting tens of thousands of trees as part of the Mangroves Forest project, among others.

Qantas To Add Two Finnair A330s To Its Fleet For The Next Six Years

Qantas has confirmed it will add a pair of Finnair A330s to its fleet for the next six years in order to free up its own aircraft and crew. Under a leasing arrangement between the two Oneworld partners, the two Finnair A330s will operate selected Qantas flights between Sydney and Singapore from late October, and all flights between Sydney and Bangkok from late March 2024. These Qantas Finnair A330s will offer a real treat to business class passengers: the Australian debut of Finnair’s radical but highly-praised ‘AirLounge’ seat.

Emirates To Offer Free On-Board Wi-Fi Connectivity

Emirates passengers in every class of travel can now avail of some form of free connectivity once they sign up to Emirates Skywards. Skywards members, whether Blue, Silver, Gold, or Platinum tier, travelling in any class, whether economy, premium economy, business or first class can avail of free app messaging. Additionally, first class passengers will have unlimited free internet if they are Skywards members, as will Silver, Gold and Platinum Skywards members travelling in business class. Platinum Skywards members have complimentary internet access in all classes.

Three Zero Emissions Airlines Gearing Up For Launch

As the industry speeds up its efforts to reach net zero by 2050, a number of new airlines are preparing for launch with a novel selling point: They intend to have no carbon emissions whatsoever. They intend to do this by flying aircraft powered by batteries, or hydrogen electric powertrains. Turkish Airlines Reveals New Menus And Lofty Ambitions

Turkish Airlines has made some significant announcements this week, including a potential order for 600 aircraft, a desire to fly direct from Istanbul to Australia and the launch of new inflight dining menus. The new food onboard focuses on local specialities, healthy eating, and sustainable dishes. The new menu options are available for business and economy class domestic and international flights. Turkish Airlines already has a reputation for its onboard dining with its original concept of Flying Chefs, which feature on selected long-haul destination flights.

Antalya Airport To Enhance Passenger Experience With New Baggage Handling System

Alstef Group has been awarded the baggage handling system project for the expansion of Antalya Airport’s Terminal 2. The departures expansion consists of 80 new check-in conveyors, 4 new screening lines with Standard 3 EDS and a new tilt-tray sorter. The departure system will be monitored and controlled by the Alstef Group software suite, BAGware. The arrivals section features 5 new inclined reclaim carousels with associated feed lines. The expansion of both the departures and arrivals areas is set to be completed by Q1 2025.

Twilight Bag-Drop Service Expanded At Edinburgh Airport

Edinburgh Airport in Scotland has expanded its Twilight bag-drop service to British Airways and Ryanair. This will allow passengers on early morning flights to come to the airport the night before to check in bags, enabling them to head straight to security on the day of travel. Jet2.com and easyJet also offer this service to passengers. The different airlines will operate slightly different bag-drop times.
