UK Bans Russian Airlines from Selling Slots Worth $62M

The UK has blocked Russian carriers Aeroflot, Ural Airlines and Rossiya Airlines from selling unused landing slots worth $62 million. In reference to the new measures, UK Transport Secretary Grant Shapps said, “This means they will be unable to use their expensive landing slots at UK airports. Our actions will also prevent Russia from selling the slots.” The move follows sanctions already put in place by the UK criminalizing the entry of Russian carriers into its airspace, allowing it to impound aircraft owned, operated or chartered by anyone linked to Russia and designated individuals or entities.
