Condor Unveils New A330-900neo Cabin

Condor has unveiled the cabin design for its new Airbus A330-900neo, to begin operations this fall. The 310-seat cabin interior features Illuminated handrails and mood lights with five modes. All seats include USB A/C ports and sockets, a mobile device holder, 4K in-seat monitors and Bluetooth connectivity. Economy seats offer a pitch of 76cm, 4-way adjustable headrests and a 13.3-inch monitor. Premium economy offers an 89cm seat pitch, a six-way adjustable headrest, adjustable footrest, and a 13.3-inch monitor. Business-class features marina blue, dark wood and leather with 199cm lay-flat beds, 17.3-inch monitors and a cocktail table.

Wizz Air to Expand Fflya Connectivity Trial

According to a recent regulatory filing, Wizz Air plans to expand its trial of the fflya product from AS-IP Tech to 19 UK-based A320 and A321 aircraft. The fflya platform is a unique service that uses Bluetooth rather than Wi-Fi for clients to connect to the onboard server with only a limited subset of typical online services to be offered, including free inflight text messaging to passengers, as well as interactive promotions, especially around tours and activities at the destination. The three-year deal will see AS-IP cover the cost of delivering the solution.

United Introduces New Amenity Kit from Away

Today, United debuted its new, co-branded amenity kits designed exclusively for the airline by global travel lifestyle brand Away for the carrier’s premium cabin passengers traveling on long-haul international and premium transcontinental routes. United will offer three versions of the amenity kits, each with custom travel essentials and Sunday Riley's United-exclusive range of clean, cruelty-free skincare products, including face creams, cleansing cloths and lip balms. The three kits include a "Hard Pod" version for Polaris long-haul international passengers, a "Sports Pouch" for Premium Plus, and a "Zip Case" for regular business on premium transcontinental.

ITA Upgrades its Onboard Experience Ahead of A350 Debut

Italy's national carrier ITA Airways, is hoping to deliver a new and better onboard experience on its recently acquired Airbus A350 aircraft. The new offerings include new cabin interiors, new crew uniforms, and new onboard catering. The 334-seat cabins are designed by Walter De Silva and feature a blue and sand color scheme with a progressive lighting set-up, which changes based on the different situations onboard. A revised menu from renowned Italian chefs will be featured, with the first iteration featuring a pappa al pomodoro and chicken hip with Amalfi scents. New uniforms have been designed in consultation with Brunello Cucinelli.

Malaysia Airlines to Operate First SAF Powered Flight on June 5

Malaysia Airlines has announced that it will operate its first passenger flight using Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) between Kuala Lumpur-Singapore and Singapore-Kuala Lumpur on 5 June 2022, to commemorate World Environment Day. Passengers can use a discount code for 15 percent off the SAF-fueled flight when booking the flight. The airline has stated that these flights reaffirm its commitment to a sustainable future and mark significant progress towards achieving a cleaner, more viable fuel source for regular flights by 2025.

Surat International Airport in India to Receive a $45.5M Overhaul

Surat International Airport in the Indian state of Gujarat is set to receive a $45.5 million upgrade from the Airports Authority of India. The project will see the existing terminal building expanded from 8,474 square meters to 25,520 square meters. The terminal building will feature 20 check-in counters, an in-line baggage handling system, five conveyor belts for arriving passengers, and five aerobridges. Once completed, the newly expanded terminal will be able to manage 2.6 million passengers a year. More than 58% of the work has already been finished, with the new building expected to be ready by 31 December.

Alstef to Install Baggage Handling System at Princess Juliana International Airport

Alstef Group has been selected to supply, install and commission the new baggage handling system at Princess Juliana International Airport on the Caribbean Island of Sint Maarten. The baggage handling system includes 22 check-in locations, 12 self-serve bag drops, two in-line Standard 3 CT x-ray machines, a manual encode lane and automatic sortation to three makeup carousels controlled by Alstef’s proprietary Bagsort Lite software. The project is part of a major national recovery and resilience program managed by the World Bank to repair and rebuild the terminal following extensive damage caused to the airport by Hurricane Irma in 2017.
