WhileFly Enters Wireless IFE Market

Israeli startup WhileFly, which offers both battery- and aircraft-powered wireless in-flight entertainment (IFE) systems, has gone from having contracts for seven aircraft to 80 during the pandemic. The company manufactures its own servers that combine a low-power central processing unit with a unique software architecture, allowing a single box to provide streaming content for an entire narrow-body aircraft. WhileFly provides airlines with hardware, IFE content and a branded portal free of charge, but shares a percentage of the airline revenues generated by the box’s advertising and e-commerce capabilities.

Lufthansa Technik, the German Aerospace Center (DLR), the Center for Applied Aeronautical Research and Hamburg Airport are to design and test maintenance and ground processes using liquid hydrogen (LH2).
