Emirates and Air Canada Form Strategic Partnership

Emirates and Air Canada intend to establish a codeshare relationship later in 2022 that will offer enhanced consumer travel choices for Air Canada customers to travel to the UAE and to destinations beyond Dubai. Emirates customers will also enjoy an enhanced travel experience when traveling to Toronto or to key destinations across the Air Canada network. Customers will be able to book connecting travel between both airlines’ networks with the ease of a single ticket, seamless connectivity at the carriers’ respective global hubs.

Mounting Chaos In Europe As Airlines Cancel 15,000 Flights

The latest data from the global flight airline analysis firm Citrium shows that airlines have cancelled 25,378 flights from their August schedules, of which 15,788 are in Europe. Lufthansa plans to cut an additional 2,000 flights until the end of August, bringing the airline’s total number of cancellations to almost 6,000. Turkish Airlines has cancelled 4,408 flights, followed by British Airways with 3,600 cancellations, easyJet with 2,045, and Wizz Air with 1,256. The cancelled flights represent just two percent of August 2022 flights.

Startup Akasa Air Aims To Be India’s Greenest Airline

India's soon-to-be-launched affordable airline Akasa Air aims to become the country's greenest carrier. From the aircraft choice to the cabin crew uniform, they look intent on delivering on their sustainability promises. Akasa Air placed an order of 72 latest generation, fuel efficient Boeing 737 MAX airplanes at the Dubai Airshow last year. For the cabin crew uniform, they’ve opted for a trouser and jacket fabric made using recycled polyester fabric, which is made from pet bottle plastic salvaged from marine waste. The crew will wear lightweight sneakers by Vanilla Moon that have been made from recycled rubber without the use of plastic.

Toronto’s Pearson Airport Creates New Infographic To Help Travelers

Toronto’s Pearson International Airport is launching a new interactive infographic aimed at helping passengers navigate the current strained air transportation system. This new tool will provide passengers with information at every step of their journey, from check-in and security to customs and baggage pickup. Passengers will be able to click on links to learn about which industry partner (airport, government agency or airline) is responsible for each step, and what each partner is doing to try to fix the delays and backlogs plaguing the system right now.

Malaysia Airlines Renews Deal With SITA

Malaysia Airlines has renewed its partnership with SITA for a comprehensive upgrade that will link its global operations to its hub in Kuala Lumpur with fast, secure, and reliable network connectivity. As part of the five-year agreement, SITA Connect will lower connectivity costs, improve the quality of service, enable ease of access to new features and applications, and facilitate their passengers’ check-in process worldwide. SITA Connect will also provide network connectivity that allows team members to access central systems from anywhere, supporting the airline’s worldwide operation for employees working remotely.

Argentina Loses Connectivity With 18 Cities After Airline Exodus

A report by Buenos Aires Tourism Board probing the state of aviation in Argentina has concluded that the country has lost connections to as many 18 international destinations over the last two years. The report found that 13 airlines have ceased operations in Argentina in the last three years, including the likes of Air New Zealand, Qatar Airways, and Emirates. The city’s two airports, Ezeiza International and Jorge Newbery Airfield received 257,000 international tourists in 2022, 66% fewer than in 2019. The average weekly number of international flights was 432, 42% fewer than in the same period three years ago.

Orlando International To Launch Immersive Digital Experience For Terminal C

Greater Orlando Aviation Authority (GOAA) and Synect are developing an immersive digital communication experience for passengers arriving at Orlando International Airport’s (MCO) new Terminal C facility from September 2022. The smart passenger communication program will be driven by Synect’s Passenger360 approach and digital signage platform. The Passenger360 system can address thousands of changes per second, such as flight or weather changes, and provides passengers with reliable, curated information for their journey. The content strategy includes live-action video footage of Orlando and the Central Florida region, engaging animations, high-visibility wayfinding, changing travel data, seasonal celebrations and more.
