Registration is Now Open for APEX EXPO 2021

Registration for APEX EXPO 2021, which will take place from October 19-21 at California’s Long Beach Convention Center, is now open. The event will begin with a full-day Thought Leadership Conference before the EXPO floor opens for two days on October 20. Attendees can also look forward to a networking event, as well as a ceremony for the APEX/IFSA Awards, Passenger Choice Awards, Four and Five Star Official Airline Ratings™ and more. To ensure the health and safety of all delegates, visitors will be required to provide proof of vaccination or of a negative COVID-19 test result.

Cathay Pacific Introduces New Regional Business Class

Cathay Pacific’s A321neo aircraft, featuring its new Regional Business Class, will enter service on August 4. Consisting of a hard-shell recliner seat with a privacy screen, the product also includes a 15.6-inch, 4K Ultra-HD seatback screen. In economy class, reclining seats are equipped with 11.6-inch 4K screens and new adjustable headrests. The airline has updated its content selection and is progressively rolling out Bluetooth audio streaming and in-flight connectivity. Furthermore, Cathay has added extra-large overhead storage bins in all cabins to provide 60% more luggage space.

Gulf Air Extends Partnership with Anuvu

Gulf Air has extended its partnership with Anuvu, formerly Global Eagle, for a further five years. The agreement will see Anuvu provide Gulf Air with a bespoke content strategy that includes access to new and classic Hollywood, Arabic, Bollywood and international movies, as well as music and games. Acting CEO at Gulf Air, Captain Waleed Al Alawi, said, “Anuvu has supported Gulf Air since 2018 and we have already seen the positive outcome of our strategic relationship. The content strategy, based on data analytics and personalized experiences, has been instrumental to our success.”

Diehl, HAECO Cabin Solutions Team Up on Aircraft Interiors

HAECO Cabin Solutions has entered a preferred strategic commercial agreement with Diehl Aviation to deliver aircraft cabin interiors projects, including bespoke installations, as an integrated supplier. The companies’ joint capabilities will cover flooring, sidewalls, stowage, cabin lighting, galleys, lavatories, seating, reconfiguration engineering, certification and installation for both airlines and MROs. “With this agreement, we will be able to provide a level of service to our customers which we feel is missing in the industry,” said Doug Rasmussen, president and Group Director, HAECO Cabin Solutions.

Air Nostrum, Icelandair Sign LOIs with Universal Hydrogen

Universal Hydrogen has signed Letters of Intent (LOIs) with Air Nostrum and Icelandair regarding the provision of its Dash 8 turboprop conversion kits. The kits encompass a hydrogen fuel cell and electric motor to replace the existing turboprop engine. They are also compatible with Universal Hydrogen’s modular hydrogen capsule technology, which allows for the delivery of hydrogen to airports without purpose-built infrastructure. Under the agreements, Universal Hydrogen would also become both carriers’ long-term green hydrogen service provider.

BA Introduces Digital In-Flight Ordering System

From July 19, British Airways (BA) passengers flying in Euro Traveller class on select routes from London Heathrow can use a digital in-flight ordering system to purchase snacks and drinks. Orders can be made by connecting to the in-flight Wi-Fi free of charge. Payment options include credit and debit cards or Avios points, after which orders will be delivered to the passengers’ seat. The system complements BA’s “Buy Before You Fly” offering that encourages passengers to order from its full Speedbird Café menu in advance of travel.

Air France Rolls Out Ready to Fly Service

From July 17, Air France will introduce a pre-travel health document verification service on flights from Paris to Corsica and French overseas destinations. Ready to Fly, which has been tested since June, asks passengers to upload health documents to an online Air France platform a few days before departure. If they are complete, passengers will receive a confirmation message and their boarding passes will be marked "Ready to Fly," enabling them to be processed quickly at the airport. If documents are missing or incomplete, they will be invited to add more information or to present their documents at the airport on the day of their trip.
