Boom Supersonic Reveals New Design For Overture

Supersonic aircraft manufacturer Boom has unveiled the latest design updates for its much anticipated flagship Overture aircraft at the Farnborough International Airshow. The supersonic airliner will feature four engines, instead of the two originally envisaged. It will also include a higher-aspect ratio gull wing, larger wingspan and a contoured fuselage. These improvements will increase the aircraft’s aerodynamic efficiency, decrease operational costs and allow it to fly quieter. Set to fly in early 2026, Overture will run on 100% sustainable aviation fuel to ensure net-zero emissions.

Regional Aircraft Lessor Abelo Orders 10 ATR 72-600S

Dublin-based leasing firm Abelo ordered 10 ATR 72-600 regional transports from the French airframer at the Farnborough International Airshow. ATR expects to begin the aircraft delivery in 2023. The lessor focuses mainly on turboprop aircraft due to their growing demand at airports with short runways that are unreachable by jet transports. Turboprops also burn less fuel and have a lower carbon footprint than equivalent-size jets. Formed from the merger of Elix Aviation and Adare Aviation Capital, Abelo has also reaffirmed a commitment for 10 short take-off and landing versions of ATR 42-600s from Elix.

UK Sets Out Jet Zero Strategy To Reach Net Zero Aviation And Deliver Guilt-Free Flying

The UK has put forth a new Jet Zero strategy to reduce aviation carbon emissions and prevent them from increasing above pre-pandemic levels in the future. Launched at Farnborough International Airshow, the strategy requires domestic aviation and all England-based airports to reach net zero emissions by 2040. It also introduces a Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) mandate to replace at least 10% jet fuel with SAF by 2030. The Government also plans to start constructing at least 5 commercial-scale SAF plants by 2025.
