Canada Mulls Next Steps As US Adopts Narrowbody Accessible Lav Rule

The US Department of Transportation’s (DOT) new rule to require accessible lavatories on new narrowbody aircraft with 125 or more seats, ordered 10 years from now, is being observed by Canada. While the Canadian Transportation Agency (CTA) is monitoring the change, it has not yet indicated plans to follow the US’ lead. Canada’s existing regulations require accessible lavatories on new twin-aisle aircraft but not single-aisle. The CTA plans to monitor the US regulation’s progress and consider future regulations for single-aisle aircraft.

US Airlines Ally With Farmers To Seek Subsidies For Corn As Jet Fuel

Airlines are allying with farmers and the U.S. biofuels industry to lobby for corn ethanol’s inclusion as sustainable aviation fuel. Environmental groups resist this, claiming minimal climate benefits from corn ethanol. The push focuses on tax credits in the Inflation Reduction Act, with airlines and refinery companies urging federal tax officials to use an analysis granting ethanol more generous credits. Critics warn it could discourage investment in less carbon-intensive fuels. The decision could shape corn ethanol’s future as the industry faces declining demand with increased battery-powered cars.
