American Airlines Cuts 31,000 November Flights

American Airlines has removed thousands of domestic and international flights from its November schedule, according to data from aviation analytics company Cirium. To avoid any operational disruptions, the carrier has cut 31,000 flights in November – equivalent to 16% of its schedule – with the largest cuts between Chicago O'Hare and Dallas-Fort Worth, as well as between Boston and Philadelphia. The carrier, which has cut more than 19,000 flights this year, said the cuts reflect network and schedule planning throughout the year.

Emirates Undertakes Largest Known Fleet Retrofit Project

Emirates has kick-started its plans to upgrade the entire interior cabins of 120 Airbus A380 and Boeing 777 aircraft. The project, representing a multi-billion dollar investment to ensure Emirates’ customers "fly better" for the coming years, officially commences in November and is managed entirely by Emirates’ Engineering team. The target is to completely retrofit four Emirates aircraft from start to finish every month, continuously for over 2 years. Once the 67 A380s are refreshed and back in service, 53 777s will undergo their facelift.

Three Canadian Airports To Adopt SITA Check-in And Gate System

Toronto, Montreal and Calgary airports in Canada have announced they are to implement check-in and gate technology from SITA by early 2023. Boarding technology and 700 check-in kiosks will be implemented across the three airports. The new touchpoints will fulfill Canadian accessibility requirements and aviation security standards and feature text-to-speech hardware, navigational keypads, height controls designed for passengers using wheelchairs, tap and chip and pin payment technology for inflight upgrades and biometric camera capability for future use. SITA will also provide operational teams at each airport to monitor for any potential bottlenecks in the terminals.

Paramount+ Announces IFE Partnership With Qantas

Paramount Australia and New Zealand today announced an entertainment partnership with Qantas. This partnership will give Qantas customers access to premium content from Paramount+. The partnership which commences in August, will see unique stories, iconic stars and a mountain of entertainment available via a dedicated Paramount+ category within Qantas’ In-Flight Entertainment platform, which include wired in-seat services, Qantas supplied devices and the Qantas Entertainment App, where available, to customers on domestic and international Qantas flights.

Air France Announces End To Research Monkey Transport

Air France, one of the major airlines still transporting monkeys for scientific research, recently announced that it would stop doing so. Monkeys from Mauritius, an island nation in the Indian Ocean, have previously been transported by the airline. But the French flag carrier stated via Twitter last week that it would stop as soon as its present contractual obligations with research groups come to an end.The demand for monkeys has risen in recent years, with COVID-19 research further adding the need for more lab animals.

Scottish Bid For Green Freeport Status To Build SAF Plant

A Green Freeport in the north-east of Scotland could play a significant role in decarbonising the aviation industry by delivering a sustainable aviation fuel plant. This would create up to 920 jobs and generate £133 million ($160 million) in gross value added per year. The North East Scotland Green Freeport is a collaborative effort by Aberdeen International Airport, the Port of Aberdeen, Aberdeen City Council, the Aberdeenshire Council, and the Peterhead Port Authority. The plant will be able to create sustainable fuel from renewable sources, including household and post-recycling municipal waste and agricultural and forestry residues.

AF Gruppen To Build Norwegian Airport

Avinor has awarded the contract for the development of an airport in Mo i Rana in Norway to construction company AF Gruppen. Three different players submitted tenders in the competition for the interactive contract. The award criteria were based on assessments of the categories of key personnel, understanding of the assignment and price. The contract will be signed when the waiting period expires on August 30, 2022. The contract will then enter the initial phase, where Avinor and the contractor intend to identify the best solutions for the construction phase. Construction will start when Avinor reaches an agreement with the contractor on the target price.
