Wizz Air To Launch 20 New Routes Between Saudi Arabia, Europe

Hungarian discount airline Wizz Air will start direct flights on 20 routes between Saudi Arabia and several European cities starting in December. The new flights will connect the Saudi capital as well as major cities such as Jeddah and Dammam with European destinations including Bucharest, Budapest, Milan, Naples, Rome, Venice and Vienna. Budapest-based Wizz has benefited from a recent growth spurt powered by its low-cost model. The company has been pushing east, setting up an airline venture in Abu Dhabi, while also building presence in western European markets.

Aegean Using SAF To Power Some Flights From Athens

In collaboration with Hellenic Petroleum, Greek flag carrier Aegean has begun fueling some of its flights out of Athens International Airport (AIA) with sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), supplied by leading producer Neste. The Athens addition follows the supply to Thessaloniki Airport. Aegean is the only carrier in Greece that has opted to use SAF to power flights. AIA achieved carbon-neutral operations on its premises in 2017. Hellenic has set a strategic goal to become a provider of low-carbon energy solutions and reduce its carbon footprint by 50% by 2030.

Star Alliance Adds Paid-For Access To Rio de Janeiro Lounge

Star Alliance has opened up its third branded lounge to paid-for access, with the group’s facility at Rio de Janeiro airport the latest to offer the service. Passengers can now pre-book access to the lounge for a cost of US$55 for three hours, regardless of membership status or cabin class. Passengers will enjoy a discount if they are a member of a Star Alliance member airline’s frequent flyer program. The lounge can accommodate up to 150 guests, and features handmade furniture crafted by local designers.

Accenture And Changi Airport Group Extend Collaboration

IT company Accenture and Changi Airport Group (CAG) are expanding their collaboration for the next three years to further improve operations and passenger experience. Under the new agreement, the two organizations will use technologies such as extended reality, machine learning, internet of things (IoT) and edge computing to engage travelers. There will also be knowledge and skills transferred to the CAG team. Adopting an approach based on rapid prototyping, the two organizations will jointly design and roll out new digital products across Changi Airport.

VPorts To Build And Operate Vertiport Hub At São Paulo

São Paulo International Airport (GRU) has selected VPorts and Air Traffic Management Inc. to build and operate a vertiport hub at a private airport terminal, as part of a 40-year concession agreement signed with airport authorities. Set to open at the end of 2023, the new 5,100 sq m building will include the vertiport hub, which will be ready to enter into service as urban air travel vehicles take flight in the coming years. The private terminal is currently being built with this next-gen safe, sustainable, and integrated air mobility vision in mind. Over 100,000 passengers per year are expected to use the terminal by 2045.

Jamco Reveals ‘Quest Seat For Elegance’ Business-Class Concept

Aircraft interiors supplier, Jamco, has released renderings of its new ‘Quest for Elegance’ business-class seat concept. The seat is designed to maximize passenger space and comfort in high-density cabins. A key feature is the unique tilting IFE monitor, patented with a wide-angle adjustment that allows passengers to enjoy entertainment in any position, whether in reclined, sleep or bed mode. It also opens up 30% more knee space than any other high-density business class seat on the market. Jamco expects to have the seat ready for installation in 2024 or early 2025.

Intelsat, Nelco Partner To Offer Inflight Connectivity In India

Satellite company and broadband services firm Intelsat on Thursday announced the beginning of Intelsat's inflight connectivity services in Indian skies through an agreement with Tata Group satellite services firm Nelco. As part of the collaboration, Intelsat's airline partners and flyers will enjoy end-to-end broadband coverage on domestic and international aircraft flying to and from an Indian airport as well as the aircraft flying over the country. Nelco has been offering the Aero IFC services for more than two years. It will provide inflight services using Intelsat's IS-33e high throughput satellite
