IndiGo Enters Codeshare Partnership With Virgin Atlantic

India’s largest airline IndiGo and British carrier Virgin Atlantic have announced a codeshare agreement to sell seats in each other's flights. The partnership will allow customers booking a Virgin Atlantic ticket to fly on the airline’s London Heathrow to Delhi and Mumbai flights, and connect to and from 7 additional cities in India. The codeshare destinations include Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Goa, Delhi and Mumbai. Later this year, the agreement will be expanded to cover 16 destinations.

‘Flightmare’ Likely To Continue Until 2024

This summer saw a surge in travel demand that the aviation industry struggled to keep up with due to acute staff shortages and the lingering effects of the pandemic. Consequently, passengers experienced mass flight cancellations and delays at several airports. To cope with the situation, several airlines have slashed their fall flight schedules. Through these desperate measures, delays appear to be subsiding at some airlines, but experts predict that the industry may not be able to fully recover until as late as 2024.

All Nippon Airlines To Offer Environmentally Friendly Inflight Meals

All Nippon Airlines (ANA) has announced new environmentally friendly, in-flight meals in its international first class cabin. The meals include a kale main course called Kale Focaccia that is made using soft kale grown with compost recycled from in-flight meal residues. The focaccia will be available on select ANA international routes departing from Japan between September 1 and November 30, 2022. Other new dishes include the Nobeoka Bamboo Shoots developed by Local Bamboo Inc to raise awareness about abandoned bamboo groves.

Japan To Lift Covid-19 Test Requirement For Fully Vaccinated Travelers

Starting September 7, Japan will ease its COVID-19 test requirements for fully vaccinated travelers. Fully vaccinated passengers who have received three doses of the COVID vaccine will no longer need proof of a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours of departure to enter the country. It is also expected that the daily limit on tourists will be increased from 20,000 to 50,000 next month. Japan reopened its borders to tourists in June and its travel and tourism sector is likely to reach near pre-pandemic levels next year.

Albany Airport’s Unique Reading Lounge Provides Free Books To Flyers

New York’s Albany International Airport has a special Reading Lounge called The Mario & Matilda Cuomo Pavilion that offers travelers a comfortable space to read a book, and also encourages them to take a free book with them on their trip. The 800 sq ft glass-enclosed lounge opened during the pandemic and features comfy armchairs and exhibits about noted writers. The lounge has bookshelves filled with more than 100 books selected, donated, and restocked by local non-profit Grassroot Givers.

Delta, DG Fuels Partner In Pivotal Expansion Of Sustainable Fuel Market

Delta Airlines and the low-emissions fuel company DG Fuels have partnered to expand the availability of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). Under the agreement, DG Fuels plans to establish a new supply stream, providing Delta with 385 million gallons of unblended SAF and expanding SAF availability. The SAF will use timber waste, corn stover and cotton gin waste as feedstock, and is likely to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 75%-85% compared to conventional jet fuel. DG Fuels expects to begin delivery by the end of 2027, supplying 55 million gallons of SAF annually for seven years.

Edinburgh Airport Opens Plaza Premium Lounge

Plaza Premium Group has opened a new lounge at the Edinburgh Airport in Scotland. The 760 m sq lounge can accommodate up to 165 guests and has been decorated with local Scottish traditional tartan fabrics, woods and a selection of local artwork. It features the Edinburgh Gin Bar that serves a range of Edinburgh Gin cocktails. The food menu includes traditional Scottish dishes like haggis and potato scones, fish and chips and traditional burgers. There is also a play area for children with shuffleboard and interactive wall games. The lounge is open daily to all travelers regardless of airline or class of travel and without pre-booking.
