United Airlines Increases Its eVTOL Options With Eve Order

United Airlines has announced a major investment in electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) technology. The airline has invested $15 million in Eve Air Mobility, alongside a conditional purchase agreement. The agreement covers a total of 200 four-seat electric aircraft, and includes the option for another 200. Deliveries are expected to begin in 2026. The partners will also collaborate for the development, use and application of Eve's aircraft and the urban air mobility ecosystem. United had recently also committed to purchase 100 aircraft from Archer Aviation.

Emirates A350 Fleet To Fly With Thales’ AVANT Up IFE

Emirates has chosen Thales’ next-generation in-flight entertainment (IFE) system AVANT Up for its new fleet of Airbus A350 aircraft. Emirates has ordered 50 Airbus A350-900 aircraft. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2024. Thales’ AVANT Up features 4K QLED HDR IFE screens that use Samsung’s QLED technology for an optimal cinematic in-seat viewing. It also offers highly integrated personalisation features, two Bluetooth connections, built-in Wi-Fi to pair multiple devices, and supports up to 70 watts of in-screen charging for passenger devices.

JSX CEO Gives Starlink In-flight Internet Updates At FTE Global

JSX expects to begin operating its first passenger-carrying flight featuring SpaceX's Starlink in-flight connectivity (IFC) service by October, according to comments made by CEO Alex Wilcox at the FTE Global event this week. Praising the technology, Wilcox mentioned that even with the technology still in testing mode, JSX staff were able to use it as an alternative to airport internet service during a recent internet service outage at Hollywood Burbank Airport. It is expected that the Starlink Wi-Fi solution will be on every JSX airplane by the end of this year.

Bluebox To Provide Wireless Digital PaxEx On Jetstar

Bluebox Aviation Systems and Jetstar Group have announced an agreement to deploy Bluebox’s digital passenger experience, Blueview, on Jetstar’s Airbus fleet. The platform will be marketed to passengers as Jetstar Entertainment and is expected to be deployed in the aircraft over the next few months. To deliver Jetstar Entertainment, Blueview will be deployed in two formats: as part of an Airbus Airspace Link installation on new aircraft entering Jetstar’s fleet, and on Bluebox’s portable wireless system, Bluebox Wow, for Jetstar’s existing A320/A321CEO aircraft. This will ensure a consistent passenger experience across the fleet.

Airbus’ A350 NPS Variant: Lower Weight, More MTOW And Bigger Cabin

Airbus is planning to transition the A350-900 and -1000 to a new production standard (NPS) by 2024. NPS will include reducing the airframe weight, improving performance, and making the cabin longer and wider. The NPS A350s will have a significant weight reduction of up to 1.2t, a 3t maximum takeoff weight increase, and enhanced performance. They will also offer an extra 35” of cabin length and expect to add up to thirty extra seats.
