Boeing And Wisk Unveil Ops Concept For Urban Air Mobility

Boeing and its joint venture partner Wisk today released a roadmap for transitioning to a future where automated and uncrewed aircraft can safely carry passengers and cargo in urban and suburban areas. The concept of operations lays out the technology, regulatory and social recommendations needed to deploy Urban Air Mobility (UAM) in the United States and integrate it into the national airspace system. It proposes bedrock principles for urban air mobility, including that flights should be safe and affordable for everyone.

American Airlines Introduces New Flagship Suite Seats

American Airlines has unveiled new Flagship Suite Business Class seats and Premium Economy seats with new deliveries of Airbus A321XLR and Boeing 787-9 aircraft beginning in 2024. Flagship Suite Business Class seats will offer a privacy door, a chaise lounge seating option and more personal storage space. American was the first U.S. airline to debut long-haul Premium Economy seats in 2016. With the introduction of new interiors, premium seating on American’s long-haul fleet will grow more than 45 percent by 2026.

‘Discover the Art of the Airport’ at Hamad International Airport

Hamad International Airport (HIA) and Qatar Museums have debuted ‘Discover the Art of the Airport’, a unique walking tour through an immersive experience where guests can view impressive sculptures and art installations by leading artists worldwide. Under the patronage of Her Excellency, Sheikha Al Mayassa Bint Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani, Chairperson of Qatar Museums, remarkable art objects created by local, regional and international artists have been placed throughout HIA. The hour-long guided tour costs USD 10 per person.

Torino Airport Achieves Zero-Emission Aircraft Turnaround

Italy’s Torino Airport has created a 100% green aircraft turnaround process by implementing an electrically powered fleet and sustainable ground handling operations. The airport now expects to achieve its net zero targets before the 2050 deadline, as well as fulfilling its Toulouse Declaration commitments. The airport has estimated that completing a turnaround with electric vehicles prevents around 100kg of CO2 from being released. With the current availability of green vehicles, the reduced impact of CO2 emitted per day is approximately 1 metric ton.

Alice Completes Hi-speed Taxi Rotation Test

Israeli startup Eviation has completed the high-speed taxi rotation test of its all-electric Alice aircraft as part of final preparations for the type’s first flight. The 16,500 lb. Alice is a nine-passenger aircraft built from the ground up to travel 440 nm on an 8,300 lb. battery pack. It was initially scheduled to conduct flight testing from the company’s Arlington, Washington, development, but to take advantage of the quieter airspace and longer runways, Eviation decided to move flight testing to Moses Lake earlier this year.

Musk's Starlink Delivers 100mbs Inflight WiFi On JSX Flight

SpaceX hosted a demo flight to showcase the capabilities of Starlink satellite internet service on a private jet last week. During the one-hour flight from Burbank to San Jose with twelve passengers onboard, SpaceX demonstrated the capabilities of Starlink to deliver WiFi for Netflix, YouTube, as well as video chats from 30,000 feet in the air. Although it’s been reported that the in-flight WiFi hit speeds over 100 Mbps, it's legitimate to ask if Starlink can support 300+ passengers on a Hawaiian Airlines widebody.

Transavia France Anticipates 10 New Aircraft And 20 New Routes By Winter

Transavia France is set to bolster its fleet with the arrival of 10 new aircraft by summer 2023. It operates a fleet of 61 Boeing 737-800 aircraft and is set to welcome its first Airbus A320neo-family aircraft next summer. Transavia France hopes to boast over 70 planes in its fleet by summer 2023. Transavia will also offer passengers an attractive range of winter getaways this year with up to 20 new destinations on the way, including Hurghada, Luxor and Sharm el-Sheikh in Egypt, Lulea, Kittila, Rovaniemi and Ivalo in Finland, and flights to Jordan, Senegal and Cape Verde.
