Air New Zealand To Discontinue Works Deluxe Seats

Air New Zealand is revising its ‘Seats to Suit’ economy offerings on Airbus A321 and A321 jets, discontinuing the Works Deluxe package starting 1 May 2024. This decision comes after feedback on providing a consistent airline experience for passengers. Works Deluxe, which guarantees an empty middle seat, will be replaced by The Works as the top economy fare on the Airbus fleet. Customers already booked on Works Deluxe after the discontinuation date will be refunded and reissued tickets at The Works fare level.

Lufthansa Introduces Fast-Track Security On Selected Routes From Munich

Lufthansa has launched a fast-track security feature at its Munich hub for passengers traveling to select cities, streamlining the process at Terminal 2’s central security checkpoint. Regardless of travel class or status, this service is aimed at shortening security wait times, primarily benefiting business travelers. The lanes’ availability will be displayed on monitors and will be reserved for families and passengers with reduced mobility during holidays. Lufthansa aims to expand this service and has recently introduced other innovations at the Berlin airport, including biometric access and revamped lounges.

Abu Dhabi’s Huge New Terminal Will Open On November 1st

Abu Dhabi International Airport’s Terminal A is set to open on November 1st, enhancing passenger capacity by accommodating over 75 planes. Preparations involved operational readiness trials with over 11,000 volunteers to ensure the terminal’s readiness. This move strengthens the UAE’s position as a global aviation hub. Terminal A will feature extensive retail spaces, luxurious amenities, and advanced biometric touchpoints. Designed for efficiency, the terminal also prioritizes sustainability, reducing water consumption and utilizing solar power.

Avianca Rebrands With Lowercase Logo

Avianca Airlines has rebranded to “avianca airlines” after nearly two years of transformation. The change reflects a shift in ethos: “the sky belongs to everyone.” The COVID-19 pandemic grounded their planes for over 180 days, prompting a reflection on the airline’s future. CEO Adrian Neuhauser unveiled the rebrand on October 18 emphasizing a renewed focus on accessibility and inclusivity. Key improvements include fleet expansion, enhanced punctuality, increased connectivity, route expansion, and sustainability efforts. Their loyalty program, LifeMiles, now has 12.4 million members, and Avianca Cargo ranks among the top three in the Americas.

Scandinavian Airlines Adds Seat Fees In Business Class

Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) has extended its seat reservation fees to include premium passengers, affecting SAS Business and SAS Plus travelers. This new fee policy, effective for bookings from October 18, 2023, and travel from October 23, 2023, exempts SAS Plus passengers on entirely domestic Nordic flights and EuroBonus Gold, Diamond, and Pandion members. Partner airline elite members are not exempt. However, seats can be chosen without fees 30 hours before departure. The seat assignment cost varies, with an example being $90 for a standard business seat and $120 for a preferred seat on a Washington to Copenhagen flight.

Leeds Bradford Announces £100 Million Upgrade

Leeds Bradford Airport (LBA) in the UK is set to invest £100m in its terminal facilities. This regeneration, approved by Leeds City Council, aims to enhance passenger experience and stimulate regional economic growth. The project includes a 9,500sqm three-storey terminal extension and a refurbishment of the existing terminal. Upgrades include more aircraft stands, seating, faster security, new retail and dining options, an expanded baggage reclaim and immigration area, and improved facilities for passengers with restricted mobility.
