Philippe Carette to Become Inmarsat Aviation’s President

From November 22, Philippe Carette will replace Philip Balaam as president of Inmarsat’s Aviation Business Unit. Carette is joining Inmarsat from Thales, where he has worked since 2013 in roles including CEO of Thales’ InFlyt Experience Business Line. Before that, he spent 14 years with Safran Group. Philip Balaam is moving to a strategy role, where he will work with Inmarsat's chief strategy officer Fredrik Gustavsson to reinforce the company’s commercial momentum. Rajeev Suri, Inmarsat’s CEO, said, “I wish to thank Philip Balaam for the pivotal role he played in establishing Inmarsat as a leader in the IFC sector.”

Air Belgium Selects Anuvu as IFE Provider

Anuvu is to provide Air Belgium with in-flight entertainment (IFE) content for the next three years. Air Belgium will make use of Anuvu’s Iris platform, a pay-monthly service that gives airlines a fixed pricing structure while offering passengers access to a broad range of content. In addition to featuring Hollywood movies and TV shows, which are available through Iris’ core channels, Air Belgium has also tasked Anuvu with providing French movies and destination documentaries covering Belgium, Curaçao, Guadeloupe and Martinique. Documentaries about Mauritius and the Reunion islands will follow.

Plant-based Meals Available to International Qantas Passengers

From November 1, passengers flying with Qantas will have more plant-based meal options to reflect the growing trend towards a healthier and more mindful diet and lifestyle. Plant-based dishes will be offered to passengers across all cabins as part of the airline’s international in-flight menu. Featured items include a potato and celeriac gratin with roast fennel, peas, mushrooms and an onion sauce; and ratatouille pasta bake with herb crumb, cauliflower and green beans. A signature cocktail, The Qantas Sky Spritz, will feature Australian botanicals including Davidson plum and finger lime.

SalamAir Introduces Premium Luban Seating

SalamAir is offering a premium seating product as part of its new Luban fare class, which is available onboard its A320neo and A321neo aircraft. Luban Passengers can enjoy increased privacy at the front of the cabin alongside a bundled package of benefits including priority check-in, free hot meals, lounge access at Muscat International airport and a 40 kilogram checked baggage allowance. “We are focusing not only on passenger comfort and ergonomics but a holistic cabin experience,” commented Captain Mohamed Ahmed, SalamAir’s CEO.

Ryanair Launches Electric Handling at 11 Airports

On October 27, Ryanair launched electric handling at eleven major airports, enabling zero emission turnarounds. The move is part of its broader commitment to achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050. Following an $8.5 million investment, Ryanair’s partner Azul Handling will be the first carbon neutral handling company in Spain and will operate at eight major Spanish locations, saving approximately 1,000 tons of CO2 per year. Additionally, Ryanair has partnered with Menzies Aviation at Amsterdam Schiphol, Gothenburg-Landvetter and Oslo airports to make turnarounds fully electric.

Changi Airport Launches Changi Pay Digital Wallet

Changi Airport has launched a digital wallet, Changi Pay, in partnership with Liquid Group. Users will receive a coupon for approximately $4 upon sign-up for contactless purchases at over 260 Changi Airport stores and its online retail store. The wallet will allow users to redeem discount vouchers and earn reward points. Changi Airport will introduce $720 worth of additional vouchers to for download on a first-come-first-served basis over the next 12 weeks. The app will eventually integrate with Changi Car Pass, Changi Eats and Changi Play Pass.

Refurbished SkyCourt Lounge Opens at BUD

The refurbished 270-square-meter SkyCourt Lounge at Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport (BUD) has reopened. Split across three rooms, it incorporates a buffet area with dining tables, workstations and comfortable armchairs. The food offering includes cookies and pastries, freshly-prepared paninis, cereals, yoghurts, salads, snacks and desserts. Access is free of charge for Priority Pass members, certain bank card holders and business-class passengers flying with airlines that have a ground handling contract with Airport Service Budapest.

Job Vacancy: Account Coordinator, Spafax

Spafax is seeking a remote Account Coordinator to work for a major US airline. The role consists of coordinating the production workflow of monthly advertising and promotional content as well as ongoing project management of ad hoc airline content. The candidate will also be expected to maintain Spafax's internal database and screen movies and TV programs. They will support the account lead and collaborate closely with the Acquisitions, Operations, Metadata and Production teams. Ideally, applicants will have at least two years' experience of a client-facing role in TV/movie scheduling, programming and production and an airline entertainment background.
