Flydubai Teases New 737 MAX 8 Business-Class Seats

Flydubai has revealed its latest Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft is equipped with HAECO’s Eclipse seats. They appear to be in a 2-2 configuration, but have a staggered layout to increase passenger privacy. Additional features include a large embedded in-flight entertainment screen above a small beverage shelf and storage area as well as a headphone hook and in-seat reading light. The carrier’s new 737 MAX 8 cabin consists of 12 business-class seats and 162 economy-class seats in comparison to its previous aircraft of the type, which have 10 lie-flat beds and 156 economy-class seats.

​​Thai Airways to Reduce Costs by Cutting Staff, Selling Jets

Thai Airways will be selling 42 aircraft and cutting staff numbers to further reduce its costs. The airline is to shrink its workforce from 21,300 down to 14,500 by December 2021. Its fleet will be reduced to 58 aircraft across four types; older, less energy efficient jets will be sold and Thai Airways will end the contracts on 16 jets it currently leases. The airline has been losing money since 2012 and is in the process of a bankruptcy-protected restructuring. It reported a net profit for the first half of 2021 by decreasing its expenses.

Delta Strikes Exclusive IFE Partnership with Peloton

Delta has refreshed its in-flight entertainment (IFE) selection to include “Classes in the Clouds,” a collection of wellbeing-focused content such as guided meditation and stretches in partnership with fitness platform Peloton and led by its instructors. This is the first time Peloton content will be available outside the platform. Delta’s IFE also now features HBO Max content for the first time. Passengers traveling between now and Christmas have a choice of over 100 films, 56 of which are new releases, including Stillwater, Free Guy and No Sudden Move, plus more than 500 TV episodes from top Hollywood studios.

SITA Makes Digital Travel Declaration Solution Free

On November 1, SITA announced it will make its Digital Travel Declaration solution free to governments. It has been operational since October 2020 and allows passengers to share required travel and health documentation ahead of their trip. “Making Digital Travel Declaration freely available to governments will be an investment in the recovery of our industry, and we hope will go some way towards addressing the challenges we all face today,” commented David Lavorel, CEO at SITA AT AIRPORTS AND BORDERS.

Virgin Australia Reopens Updated Melbourne Lounge

Virgin Australia opened its updated Melbourne lounge on the same day Australia reopened international borders and the borders between Victoria and New South Wales. The space maintains its original structure and layout, with spaces to relax, dine and work, but has a more contemporary look and feel thanks to bright greenery, new furniture with a more relaxed color palette and bold, playful signage across the walls. Signature features, such as its coffee and wine bars, return under signs reading “Wake Up” and “Wind Down.” The bathrooms and shower facilities have also been refurbished.

Air Transat and SAF+ Announce Major Offtake Agreement

Air Transat and SAF+ Consortium (SAF+) have announced an offtake agreement for 90% of the e-fuel produced at the first SAF+ plant during its initial 15 years of operations. The agreement marks the first time an airline in Canada has reserved a significant volume of e-fuel over an extended time. The agreement also includes support for the project's development, lowering the risk to SAF+ by providing the company with a stable revenue stream. By 2026, SAF+ aims to bring to market a synthetic kerosene produced by capturing and combining carbon from industrial sources with green hydrogen produced in Quebec.

Emirates Offers Diwali Treats Onboard India Flights

Passengers flying with Emirates to India between November 2 and November 6 will receive traditional festive treats packaged in brightly colored boxes in celebration of Diwali. Economy-class passengers will be served Motichoor Laddu, small flour balls deep-fried in ghee and simmered in a cardamom and saffron-infused sugar syrup, with their hot meals. In addition to Motichoor Laddu, first- and business-class passengers will also be served Mixed Nut Tribooj, which is made with nuts like cashews and pistachios along with milk and spices and served in a covering of edible silver foil.
