Geven, PriestmanGoode Showcase Materia Seat Design

Following the reveal of its Elemento economy-class seat design, Geven and PriestmanGoode have unveiled Materia, which can be used as a short-haul business-class or long-haul premium economy-class product. The design includes an integrated in-flight entertainment screen and end bays with detailing that wraps around the back shell. It utilizes materials from wood inlays to leather and infused plastic. Pasquale Rapullini, Geven’s research and development manager, said, “A pressure release wave system, tablet holder and new cushion technologies are just some features introduced on Materia.”

Passengers Accused of Unruly Behavior on Flights Face Fines

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has charged ten passengers with fines totaling $225,287 due to alleged unruly behavior on flights. The ten cases include incidents where passengers shoved flight attendants, used expletives, threw fits and refused to comply with the FAA requirement for face masks onboard. In the last year, the FAA has documented 5,114 reports of unruly passengers, with more than 100 of these involving physical assault; 239 have been met with penalties. Since the introduction of the mask mandate, airlines have logged 3,710 reports of passengers refusing to comply.

QuiverTree Media Becomes World2Fly’s CSP

Long-haul Spanish carrier World2Fly has chosen QuiverTree Media as content service provider (CSP) for the varied in-flight entertainment (IFE) systems in operation across its fleet, including overhead screens, Safran RAVE Centric seatback screens and a wireless in-flight entertainment platform. Passengers will benefit from access to the latest Hollywood blockbusters, TV shows, games, audiobooks and podcasts, international press and more. World2Fly will also use playlists curated by QuiverTree Media for its cabin music when passengers embark and disembark the aircraft.

Lufthansa Technik to Distribute RAY UV-C Disinfection Robots

Lufthansa Technik is now a non-exclusive distribution partner for Aero HygenX’s RAY autonomous UV-C disinfecting robots. A Memorandum of Understanding between the companies will see Lufthansa Technik act as a sales liaison to airlines, ground handling companies, MRO facilities and service shops wanting to procure RAY. “The product line meets our stringent quality standards, is environmentally friendly and offers superior defence against the spread of pathogens,” said Max Schramm, sales director, Canada at Lufthansa Technik. RAY can disinfect a narrow-body jet in as little as seven minutes.

Delta to Add Premium Economy on All European Flights

Delta has announced that by next summer, all European services will offer its long-haul premium economy cabin, Premium Select Plus. Launched in 2016 and introduced on flights to London Heathrow from late 2019, Delta's premium economy-class seats boast a width of up to 19 inches and a pitch of up to 38 inches. The carrier plans to increase the frequency of services from New York to Amsterdam, London, Milan and Rome to double daily from next summer and will begin operating new routes from John F. Kennedy International Airport to Athens and Tel Aviv on Memorial Day weekend.

SITA, Envision Digital to Help Airports Reach Net-Zero Goals

SITA and Envision Digital are hoping to create a carbon reduction solution that connects and facilitates data flows to monitor an airport’s carbon footprint in real-time, gain data-driven insights and manage emissions. The goal is to synchronize airports’ energy silos, drive efficiencies and reduce energy consumption. Sergio Colella, SITA’s president for Europe, said, “235 airports across Europe have committed to net zero by 2050, and more than 90 airports are now set to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2030 … we can help these airports to meet their sustainability commitments.”

Reagan National Airport Opens Two New Security Checkpoints

On Tuesday, the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority opened two newly constructed 50,000-square-foot security checkpoint buildings at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) in partnership with the Transportation Security Administration. The buildings host 23 screening lanes with the ability to expand to 28, replacing the airport’s existing 20 screening lanes. Additionally, the buildings include 1,000 square-feet of concessions space. They are connected by walkways to terminal parking garages as well as the airport’s Metrorail station and have been built with a focus on sustainability.

Spafax is seeking a remote Account Coordinator to work for a major US airline. The role consists of coordinating the production workflow of monthly advertising and promotional content as well as ongoing project management of ad hoc airline content. The candidate will also be expected to maintain Spafax's internal database and screen movies and TV programs. They will support the account lead and collaborate closely with the Acquisitions, Operations, Metadata and Production teams. Ideally, applicants will have at least two years' experience of a client-facing role in TV/movie scheduling, programming and production and an airline entertainment background.
