Shandong Airlines to Launch Digital Aircraft Pilot Program with FTS

Shandong Airlines is to deploy FTS’ full range of hardware and software solutions to digitize its domestic Boeing 737 fleet with the goal of harnessing real-time data to increase safety and efficiency and improve the passenger experience. The first modified aircraft is expected to enter service in mid-2022. The two parties will also build a “Digital Aircraft Innovation Lab” that sees local tech startups, system integrators and global partners leverage China’s high-throughput satellites to ideate, test and commercialize digital aircraft innovations.

West to Supply Technical Services for WarnerMedia's Film Library

WarnerMedia has selected West Entertainment (West) to supply technical services for its Hollywood movies at The Lab at West, the company's MPA/TPN secured facility featuring equipment for high-speed automated encoding, tape duplication, subtitle management, in-flight entertainment integration, audio/video editing and post-production. West will begin processing orders as part of its March 2022 cycle, encoding all WarnerMedia features, including those from Warner Bros, HBO and HBO MAX, and acting as the exclusive duplication lab.

CastLabs Refreshes DRMtoday Onboard Solution

CastLabs is releasing a third update version of DRMtoday Onboard, its offline digital rights management (DRM) licensing solution. DRMtoday Onboard works with Google Widevine, Microsoft PlayReady and Apple Fairplay Streaming and is designed for use in transport environments. The configuration aspect can now be updated together with the content instead of requiring script updates. Furthermore, a decreased reliance on Java sees the solution support installations using Linux packages or the deployment of Docker containers, giving users the flexibility to deploy and manage applications on their servers.

Singapore Airlines’ Temporary Changi T3 First Class Lounge

Singapore Airlines’ newly opened SilverKris Business Class lounge includes a dedicated space for first-class Singapore Airlines and Star Alliance passengers. The temporary first-class section can accommodate 88 passengers and features mixed seating from armchairs to benches, as well as “productivity pods” with privacy panels and laptop-friendly tables. Visitors will also be offered table service and a wider selection of meals and drinks. Construction of the SilverKris First Class lounge and exclusive area, The Private Room, are set to be completed in February 2022.

Lufthansa to Offer More Long-Haul Economy-Class Snacks

Beginning December 1, Lufthansa will offer new snacks and spirits for purchase in economy- and premium economy-class. Main meals and drinks will remain free of charge. The product line, titled Onboard Delights, is based on Lufthansa’s short-haul offering, which was launched in May 2021 and includes champagne, Baumkuchen from Dallmayr, organic kettle chips and a Share organic nut bar that donates one meal to the Sunshine Project in India with each purchase. The menu will initially be available on 37 long-haul flights and will expand to all intercontinental flights by spring 2022.

Paradies Lagardere Deploys MishiPay Technology at 20 More Airports

North American airport retailer and restaurateur Paradies Lagadere has introduced MishiPay’s Scan, Pay and Go mobile self-checkout technology at 20 airports across the US and Canada. The contactless technology enables shoppers to scan and pay for products using their own devices without downloading an app, giving store associates more time to sanitize high-traffic areas, restock and assist customers. First piloted at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood and Charlotte Douglas airports, the technology generated a higher items-per-transaction ratio and has an average customer satisfaction rating of 4.85 out of five.
