Air India To Place Historic Order For Nearly 500 Jets

Air India is reportedly in the process of inking deals with Airbus and Boeing for a historic order of nearly 500 aircraft. According to Reuters, the orders could include 400 narrowbody planes and 100 widebody planes such as the Boeing 787, 777, and Airbus A350. The delivery of these jets is expected to be spread over the next decade and will result in a massive overhaul of Air India’s fleet. The order reflects the carrier’s plans to recapture the domestic and international markets.

India Opens New Greenfield International Airport In Goa

A new greenfield international airport has been launched at Mopa in the Indian state of Goa. With an investment of $348 million, Phase I of Mopa International Airport has a capacity of nearly 4.4 million passengers per year, and features a solar power plant, LED lights on the runway, rainwater harvesting and a modern sewage treatment plant. It also includes latest technologies such as 5G compatible IT infrastructure, Robomatic Hollow precast walls and 3D Monolithic Precast buildings.

Cathay Pacific Brings First Class Back To The Skies

Cathay Pacific has reinstated its first class flights to prime destinations. The carrier’s ‘open suites’ are also returning to the skies for the first time in almost three years. Following the return of its flagship Boeing 777-300ER jets with 6 first class suites to London beginning last week, Cathay has also rostered first-equipped Boeing 777s to Paris and Tokyo for early 2023. Paris will see Cathay’s first class on flights from January 18, followed by its Tokyo Haneda flights from February 1.

Emirates Serves Festive Meals And Snacks On Board

Emirates is serving passengers festive Christmas meals and snacks in all cabins on select routes. First and Business Class passengers will be offered classic dishes like lemon and herb marinated king prawns with fennel salad, and cured salmon gravadlax with mustard crème fraiche. Economy Class passengers can enjoy Christmas meals including roasted turkey with chestnut roulade, pommes Parisienne, gingerbread cake and cinnamon sauce. The cabin crew will also offer mini gifts of cinnamon cream profiteroles and chocolate truffles to all passengers between 24-26 December.

Port Hedland Airport Implements Amadeus Cloud Computing

Port Hedland International Airport, Australia is implementing Amadeus’s Cloud Use Service to simplify its passenger services and increase flexibility. The common-use passenger processing technology facilitates collaboration within the airport as all stakeholders from airport to airline and ground handling staff have access to passenger handling applications. The solution is expected to create a smoother passenger flow from curb to gate as the airport will no longer need dedicated equipment per airline. Airline agents will be equipped with tools to deliver a personalized service to passengers.

JSX Now Online With SpaceX Starlink

The first JSX aircraft carrying the SpaceX Starlink inflight internet service entered service last week. The FAA certification for the installation was received earlier in the week. JSX has confirmed that the in-flight service will be offered to passengers at no additional cost. With the certification now in hand, the companies will move forward with broader service deployment. The rollout timeline of the Starlink service across the JSX fleet is expected to run through Q1 2023.

Canada Jetlines Kicks Off New Service Linking Toronto And Vancouver

Canada Jetlines has launched a new route that offers nonstop service from its hub at Toronto Pearson International Airport to Vancouver International Airport. The direct round trip Airbus A320 service from Toronto to Vancouver commenced on Friday, December 9. The new route provides a convenient schedule for leisure travel, creating more accessible flight options within Canada and connecting the lower mainland and southern Ontario. It is also a convenient connection for travelers to board Jetlines flights to destinations in the U.S.
