LATAM Needs a New Bankruptcy Refinancing Plan

A US bankruptcy court rejected LATAM's planned refinancing deal last week, claiming that it created a sweetheart offer for the primary shareholders. By granting them a discounted rate for new shares after the company emerges from bankruptcy, the judge determined the proposal "subverts the reorganization process because the discount is not market-tested." The decision puts at risk the $2.2-billion bailout package and forces the funding companies to take another look at how they can bring much-needed cash to LATAM without giving up control that their prior investments granted. Six of nine members of LATAM's Board are tied to the existing investors, raising conflict of interest challenges.

"Tackling food waste is one of the largest cost-saving opportunities for any business producing and serving food. Cathay Pacific Brings In-Flight Catering to Locals

Hong Kong's Cathay Pacific is the latest airline to bring its in-flight meals to ground level. The company's catering arm now offers local delivery of food to keep the kitchens running in the face of demand near nil. The kitchen used to produce 83,000 meals per day, but passenger traffic is down well over 90%. While the sales won't make up for the missing revenue of airfares, they will help keep the catering operation running such that it can more easily scale back up when flight demand returns.
