NASA Partners With Airlines to Save Fuel, Reduce Flight Delays

In 2022, NASA’s Digital Information Platform (DIP) machine-learning tool gave flight controllers at two Dallas airports the ability to cut down on delays and fuel consumption. They were able to find chances for more effective, alternate takeoff routes using the Collaborative Digital Departure Reroute (CDDR) technology, which decreased delays and saved fuel. Now, DIP tools will be put to work with 5 new partner airlines: American, Delta, JetBlue, Southwest, and United. DIP’s work and partnerships contribute to the agency’s Sustainable Flight National Partnership efforts.

Boom Supersonic And Dimensional Energy Announce Sustainable Aviation Fuel Agreement

Boom Supersonic, the aerospace startup that will be manufacturing its carbon neutral jet in the Triad, will purchase 5 million gallons of sustainable aviation fuel per year from Dimensional Energy. But many questions about the fuel itself remain among some industry experts. The contract is one part of the company’s net zero carbon commitment in the manufacturing of its supersonic airliner, Overture. One of the challenges for sustainable aviation fuel (or SAF) is supply — it accounts for less than one tenth of one percent of global fuels.
